Anyone has experience with 70mai dashcam? Saw online comments that the camera can be quite hot.

I used to have the 70mai 1s bought in June 2022. Yes, it cannot withstand heat. Always will claim memory card error and shutdown when it is too hot

Thanks. Any recommendations for 2-ch dashcam with recording during parking?

Been using the iRoad FX2 pro for a few years now, still going strong, quality is decent enough for that price point. No complains about the parking function either, you're able to set it to stop recording after a specific amount of time or once the car batt falls below a preset voltage.

Iroad heat management is good. Installed 3 of their models in the past, never failed even when parked/recording in the open.

Yes, it doesn't fail for now - but give it 2 or 3 years after parking at surface carparks. The lens will degrade to a blurry mess.

I think you may have mixed up with Blackview where some of their older models had this issue.

My experience with Iroad models, I.e. AEV, X5, QX2 all no issues with lens even mostly parked outdoors 24/7 for about 3 years for each model.

I can't vouch for iRoad will mess up the lens as i don't park open air, and at most only during early morning hours 6-8am when I'm out at the gym.

However, iRoad has this inherent issue after a few years, the internal timing chip will go off and the time will no longer be accurate. Mine is about 3 years before I had to swap a new set. Was on the X9 and swap to FX2 Pro last year because of that. I was lazy to go get a refurbished set from iRoad SG since it's an inherent issue. Previous car also same issue. Changed 2-3 times, including auto-reboot ocassionally.

Apart from that, I'm pleased with the quality, given it's a few hundred, take it as depre over 3 years, negligible. The battery pack didn't last as long as well, mine was barely 2 years in when it lost power, couldn't sustain parking recording when it was supposed to for 40 hours.

That said, these are all expendables and consumables, nothing lasts forever under prolonged usage and exposure to natural elements.

Last gripe is the security flash, the LEDs tend to loose colour at the ends while the center ones usually stay bright, but oh well...

Nah, I was referring to iRoad.

You go to their service centre and try to do a warranty claim. Their policy is "1:1" exchange, sometimes with a refurbished set, iirc.

Any electronics place that does not even bother to bring in your item for a repair, and ship it back out to customer, but instead does a one-to-one exchange - you and I know very well what kind of quality their products are (i.e. it is not even worth their time to repair, or they do not even have the technical know-how to do product repairs).

With prices ranging from $400 to $600 and even higher for just the most basic model + installation/labour fees with their partner workshops - it is certainly not something that I take too kindly as an end-consumer.

Let me put it this way la.

Take in, repair, send to customer maybe 2-3 weeks. Then if not done properly, customer wastes 2-3 weeks again. Lose-lose for all.

Refurb, already tested, working, just replace and go. If you take in a out of warranty set, they also give you the option to return the faulty set and buy a refurb set and you're good to go.

How to live without a car camera for 2-3 weeks? The front camera is the recorder for rear as well, the SD card, etc all is plugged into the front.

Cameras are items that die over time, just like some are willing spend a few hundreds/thousand on battery operated headphones, they enjoy while they can, until the battery dies and can not be changed or replaced, the headphone is now a useless junk.

Yes I understand what you mean.

I was thinking more along the lines if the service centre worked like Apple repair center. You check in the dashcam, they diagnose it, and you come back 1-2 hours to pick up the repaired dashcam.

Because if the unit breaks down within warranty period, and yet if they don't have stocks for the same model, and dump you a different dashcam model based on their exchange policy of "equivalent model"... For most customer it still means tearing down and redoing the electrics/wiring due to possibility of different connectors and length of wiring.

Who should pay for that labour part then... Hmm...

Think Apper is different because they have a team of clean lab specialists behind the scenes working. Even my MacBook Pro took 3-5 days to replace the battery. For small devices like these, I doubt they have specialists or hire that many to sit around wait. Apper has quantity and market, car cams lesser ba.

Know where you are coming from though. I brought my Dreame robot for battery replacement; brought there they say need to leave there 2 weeks to ascertain if the battery is dying. I was like WHHHAAAAT. Just replace the bloody battery and let me go already. It takes 8 hours to clean 134sqm the battery is obviously gone case.

Stupid procedure and process, end up I say I take back continue using cos my taobao battery arriving in a week or so, I just endure the inbetween cleaning where the robot charges itself like 3-4x. They are really dumb in processes. Feel your pain there.

That time when I brought it back to iRoad service centre, after my dashcam lens went bad.

Asked if they can repair? No.
Asked if they sell refurbished units? No.

So I asked them what options do I have? They said - you buy a new one from us.

I just wanted a good unit to install, so I don't have to redo the wiring. But they do not even cater to that... And that was after paying $600+ for the unit + installation.

Now, I just get 70mai dashcam, under $200 or thereabouts with 2 channel recording. Wiring, do myself properly with fuse taps.

That's weird, my iRoad 'timing' chip went bad and the cam kept rebooting, they offered me a replacement (refurbished set) for $70, comes with 3months warranty too. Along the way a week in, it died again and they swapped another copy for me.

$600 is with external battery pack? I don't remember the camera so ex tho'. Mine is usually done with battery pack, my workshop will recommend replace the wires or can reuse, they know the age of my setup since I do with them, so I leave it to them.

I used to have the cam installed on top, then wire dangle down to the cigg plug. Nowadays vain, I prefer to have it properly concealed. I can DIY but... lazy. LOL.

The price was without - this was almost 9 years ago... and probably things would've changed by then.

Though today I see iRoad prices for a 2ch set up is already $300 upwards, without labour/installation.

I give up on these pricey dashcam since the 70mai ones are the cheaper ones, yet still has basic features like constant power option, and time/date timestamp within the footage (some of the dinky Chinese brands really cmi and don't even show date/time on the footage).

Usually, the selling price comes with installation, I haven't been charged additional on top of the camera price. I've installed 3 sets so far, all prices comes included. Did you get ripped off?

Couldn't be sure - it was years ago when I was still a noob at car ownership.

These days - I have wised up already.

No worries Boss.
