dont you need a Z170 to overclock instead of H170?

edit: is it wise to get your friend an OC chip when he doesnt even know how to build his own rig?

edit 2: i know you get best bang for bucks by overclocking. im not sure what gains you have for autocad but the result in games is frankly negligible. also there is no such thing as a free lunch in the world. you need to spend more on fans, ventilation and your chip/board will likely die faster. end result...your friend might have to spend more in the near future...

No problem la. I bought a 6500 and I wonder why he say it's a k. I buy because I don't intend to oc it.

And to ts, in the event your gpu don't work with your tv via hdmi, putting it through your mobo hdmi port is going to make the gpu useless. Your output would be from the onboard graphics.

U don't even need any of the z series. A h110 will do fine if u only need 4 sata ports. Otherwise, go for the b series.

One lesson I learn from buying mobo is not to buy what u don't need.

i'm not an expert and im lazy to research, but iirc the difference between these mobos are very small. a usb c convertible here. an overclock there. since u already know what u want, just tell the person what you need. and pick the cheapest loh. also, make sure your case can fit it. ie make sure you dont buy an atx board when your case supports a micro-atx one?

even if your mobo gets destroyed in future, you still need to go back to the distributor to RMA it

i dont think what he needs is rocket science tbh. 3 HDD means need 3 SATA most mobos should be able to do this. HDMI output from mobo should be standard fare these days too.

Only tricky ones are when you wana OC or when you need the USB C reversible. And yes maybe the wifi thing. But a wifi dongle costs like what...$40 or less? Also there is probably the number of USB 3 ports etc but frankly....alot of devices still work on USB 2...

TS is also not into "future proofing" so his budget should be able to work. I'd say maybe buy the 1060 online or get a second hand 980. They should be really cheap now no?

With his budget, he can only get a 1060 3gb tops if he wants that i5 which is needed for AutoCAD? I build a similar PC recently and it cost me up to 1.05k.
