Another story from SATS Cargo.
A group of 5 persons, every month, shared n buy 100 ticket running nos.
Then one day, a guy said short of money n want out.
He asked Another member to take over his share next month.
The following month, the BS opened 1st Prize.
That guy, had only to blame himself for not contributing that month.
This is called "Ass LUck" bopian.
I had wrote this b4 in the forum ..back at Dec 96 when big sweep just started 4D draw... there was 4 of us
I shall name Jack Joe, Jill & John..we went drinking at parklane to celebrated Jack birthday. work day as usual the next, then Joe said '" a buey 4D lei is Jack birthday" upon hearing this I said ok one person each $50 ( well we just got our pay everyone is fine except Jill , he said me no luck one I invest $10) and had wrote 10 numbers and fold it up....so I went around first to Jack "a you cow 1 you throw the cup first , don't use hand pick I said"! then follow by Jill then John...Joe was the last as he's the youngest and he used hand pick '" a duck you la , put back use cup throw the number again'' 0810 - so Joe ask uncle driver send him to buy 4d - he smart he brought 25b & 25s x 3 tickets and 5b & 5S for Jill...... then we said " a pls la tonight dont drink liao, very shag ''''

as usual the day end and I went to have a hair cut at Pearl center (at that time Peter & Guy is a well known salon)
my handphone rang Jill called , he said uncle said we tio third prize, I duck him off and said don't disturb la....

Well the salon got teletext so I ask the boss to switch to 4D result....then I said bo lei no strike lei.. looking carefully it was Sunday draw , then she switch to Wed the actual draw.... well she heard our communication ... and kaypo ask wu tio bo? to my surprise we really tio third price each was awarded S$37.5k after GST reduction for 3rd .... well Jill got much lesser haha and he complained he wanted to bet more the later day...

And of course , we went drinking again that night which last us another 2 years or so till Jack got caught for drunk driving...

FYI, Jack die of coronary artery disease (heart failure) about 10 yrs back, Jill is with stage 4 rectal cancer, Joe was still the Joe as for John he did the best and now a rich man

My frd's frd is a non gambler.
One day, he visited his gf house, whose incidentally the mom is a private 4D bookie.
The mom told my frd frd, want to buy 4D.
He said don't gamble.
The gf mom said, buy your age n gf.
Which he bought like 3x3y.
That night, open 1st prize n he won $50k.
Beginner' Luck.
From then on......
He became a gambler n lost quite a lot.

Researchers are poor.

Not what Singaporeans are brought up to chase as a goal.
I would not generalise about being poor but I respect them for being researchers. Rich people do get the acclaim from many people. Same for strength, speed, beauty.

And Nobel prize winners comprised not only researchers. They also come from other fields like literature, peace, economic sciences.

No one win in gambling in long term (just ask Temasek Holding). Which is why it is wise to acknowledge that it is beginner's luck at play, just play one time which is also final time and that's it. One don't need so many luck, just one luck will do, if it is yours, it is yours, if not, just move on. Nothing can change that.

https://www.asiaadvisersnetwork.com...Grab-driver-blew-through-his-lottery-winnings

Someone walked away S$9 million dollars richer in Singapore after the recent lottery draw results. But is it luck or a curse? Here's a timely reminder on the importance of money management as we learn from the experience of someone who blew through his lottery winnings and is back working as a Grab driver.

Singapore Pools, the state-owned lottery subsidiary company in the lion city, announced the results to its Toto lottery draw on 27 February. And there was one winning ticket for the grand prize of S$9,310,169.

Wow!

I’m sure you must have heard of objections from prospects or even your clients sharing with you their hopes of striking the lottery to put aside all their financial worries.

Even as they continue to dream and hope for a lottery win, it is important that they put in place a financial plan and enhance their personal financial literacy to cultivate good money habits with you.

You can find plenty of examples doing a quick search about lottery winners in the US with unbelievable amount of winnings who end up broke again.

Well, here’s a story closer to home in Asia that you can share with them.

“I won the big sweep. 2nd prize. $500k”

Earlier this year, Ian Isaiah Ding recounted his conversation with the driver on his Grab ride in Singapore.

While chatting, the driver Mr Teo shared what Ian described as “the most fascinatingly mind-blowing story” he has heard.

Mr Teo shared, “I won the big sweep. 2nd prize. $500k.”

According to Ian, Mr Teo:

  • quit his job with immediate effect
  • took his dad on a holiday to Taiwan, where he spent $20k on business class flight, food, and experiences
  • took the next 45 consecutive days to drinking expensive hard liquor at his regular club
Unfortunately for Mr Teo, after the 45th night of drinking, when he got up to shower the next day, he slipped and fell in the bathroom and fractured his spine.

At the hospital, the MRI scans showed that he also had 3rd stage brain cancer.

And the driver showed Ian the photo proof of the letter of diagnosis as well as his X-Ray images.

Fortunately for Mr Teo, he didn’t have to worry about his medical bills as 90% of the bill was covered by his hospitalisation insurance plan and all his surgical costs were covered, including the two spinal implants at his neck.

So how did he spend the more than $300,000 that he was left with?

Mr Teo lost another $100,000 at the casino and was scammed some $100,000 by someone in a Chinese temple for two years.

The rest was spent without much thought to pass time.

“This year is my 5th year. In March, the doctor will declare me clear of cancer. But the money ran out already, so I have to come out and drive grab,” said Mr Teo.

The incident happened five years ago when Mr Teo was 33. Now he is only 38.

And the driver has replied to collaborate the story and gave further details

“I check 6 times to double confirm the number before collecting it the next day, lol I spent 7k on 5days trip in Taiwan and business class air tickets was at 15k only, I spent 100k on drinking Gordon blue, Martell Chivas and beer, I lost 28k in casino anyway we got a common friend, so he text me what u send online.”

“I got scammed by a chinese medium 130k after 2years which I confirm 2 times at the temple I strike is basically out of luck but the ??? help me strike 1st prize 70k, ???? help me strike 12500 when I was in hospital. really damn funny”

As Ian rightly pointed out, Mr Teo won the money, but we can all gain the lessons from his experience. So can your prospects and clients, when it comes to financial literacy and sound money management habits.
If it’s you, will you deposit all into SA?
