Hi to all :

I need some help, hope someone can give me opinions. Thank You.

I am taking P1 this coming June exam session. But i dont know if i should choose UK or SGP variant for the paper. My lecturer teaches us based on UK variant, so i am wondering if taking UK variant would be a better choice? Since my examples/case studies are mostly UK also, i am afraid it wont do me any good if i choose the SGP variant.

*Exempted from F8, but the auditing and assurance syllabus i covered was based on UK syllabus.

Apart from that, is it a must for all papers to be done in SGP variant in order to be recognised by ICPAS?

Hi. I think only the SGP variant is recognised by ICPAS. Heard from a lecturer in SAA teaching P1 is that if you take the INT variant, ICPAS will ask you to retake the SGP variant.

Also the difference between SGP and INT is the Singapore Code of Corporate Governance and the UK Combined Code. For INT, you are required to quote from the Combined Code most of the time while for SGP its the Singapore Code of Corporate Governance

I believe the website stated quite clearly for the documents needed.

Please prepare the following in scanned format:

Certified by a full member (CPA) of the institute

Certified true copy of Academic Certificate (University Accountancy Degree / Professional Qualification Certificate)

Certified true copy of Academic Transcript(s)

Certified true copy of NRIC (for Singaporeans & PRs) / Passport (for foreigners)

Certified true copy of Deed Poll (if applicable)

As to how long they process, you have to call icpas and ask them, not very sure about it.

no need to sign up as provisional member. wait for 3 yrs later, apply for CPA membership directly. However u might wish to continue your ACCA membership after graduation.

Thanks for the information :)

I will check it out tomorrow at the Orientation event to clear all my doubts, dont wish to take the wrong variant and end up retaking papers just because its not recognised by ICPAS haha :)

Hi guys,

Needed some advise.
Currently taking ACCA, only completed F1-6 and working in Shipping industry for the past 2.5- 3 yrs..

Initially took ACCA because the picture of wking in audit industry seems wonderfull and was inspired by my cousin who worked in PWC... However as i came into this thread and read through other's opinion and experience, it seems working in the big 4 is scary and may not get good money if i cannot stay very long in big 4...

As i may be one who can endure longer working hours but i was tinking whether end of the day, will i be able to make it to like better pay(8-10K) in 10 years' time in accounting/auditing..

Was really struggling whether to give up ACCA and take up a degree in maritime management(3 Year Course) and continue in maritime industry as a long life career which i will not waste my past 2-3 years of working experience or should i continue ACCA?

As from past post, i understand that big 4 only accept complete ACCA and i still have F7-9 and P1-3 and two selective module to go. This would mean it might take another one to two years which i believe it to be two yr(at least) as it seems that P1 paper onwards are extremely tough.

Also ACCA is much more cheaper to take than the maritime degree whcih will cost up to 30-40K with a grant of 5-10K.

Anyone who can has advise??

after completing your acca, ask for internal transfer to accounting dept. i frequently heard ppl talking about vessel accounting. could be useful in your future career path.
