Anybody has any idea/comments about upcoming ACCA classes at SIM? Just received an email from them about it and I'm keen simply because SIM is within walking distance from my home.

http://www.simge.edu.sg/gePortalWeb...ails&contentID=idcpub004017&fid=CourseDetails

Apparently they don't seem to offer all the modules (just F4,6 and P papers) at the moment and there is no mention as to who the lecturers are.

Check this:

Looks like the SIM ACCA is for their degree students, but not sure who is teaching nor what the pass rates are like. Only Kaplan and SAA-GE are Platinum status which means that they have consistently high pass rates for all subjects. No matter where u go the issue at the end of the day is can they help u get through.

Thanks, those are not familiar names to me though. Wonder if they are any good.

That's true, but I'm fairly sure next semester will be their first batch (ie. no past history). Rather than the institution itself i tend to trust more on the lecturers teaching, which was why i joined LSBF to be in Saminathan's class.

I also receive email from SIM because I graduated from SIM-UOL. Two familiar names, James Kwan ('retired' from teaching f5, p2 and still teaching f7 and f9 at SAA) and Ms Chu Mui Kim (currently not teaching) taught ACCA classes for some papers in SAA and Kaplan respectively.

I am just surprised that Ms Chu can teach P2 class.

what is the difference between study text and class notes? Can I pass the exams if I study the class notes for F4 by LSBF?

Good day to all the senior from ACCA, I've a few questions in mind and hope any bro/sis can help me out.

I am currently serving NS and manage to get a 8-5 office hour vocation and hope to make use of this 2 years to get at least an ACCA level. I graduated with a dip in accounting and finance in one of the polytechnic.

1) As I am studying for all the skill module, will 3 subject be too tedious for me ?

2) Is it recommendable if I take up self study for F4 and F5?? will I be lag behind if I take up self study instead of going for the tutorial??

Hope to get any advise. Thanks!! :s13:

8-5... count yourself damn lucky. I think doing 3 papers is tough but manageable if you're hardworking.

Of course you will be lose out if you self study, else what are the lessons for right? :s13: I would recommend going for classes as many of concepts are taught esp for F5. Not easy to grasp them by doing self-study.

So meaning even for F4 it is recommended to attend classed even though it is a more on a theory module ?

ICPAS is spliting ACCA.. what do you guys think about the implication?

Main concern is how this development will affect ACCA's future reputation and standing amongst employers in Singapore and internationally. Also, what will ACCA's role be in ICPAS's new QP qualification.

I read the email from ICPAS too. Asking us to make an informed choice. I don't quite get it. What is the choice they are talking about actually? I don't think I can make it in time to apply for associate by Sep 2012. I still have to take one last paper in June, the results come in late Aug assuming if I pass,. I can only take PAC in Jan 2013. So I will miss the deadline of Sep 2012 given. I am trying not to think of it, struggling to pass this coming exam first.

From what I understand, existing students who go through the ICPAS Plus route can gain ACCA & ICPAS membership after they have completed ACCA.

This means that you can still apply for ICPAS associate membership even if you complete ACCA after Sep 2012, provided you go through this route.

That's my take anyway. I think you can call up ACCA/ICPAS to check?
