P4 is more for those who work in finance line rather than accounting line
P5 is for managment accounting jobs
P6 for tax
P7 for audit

i see .. any idea what is the starting salary of each of the 4 positions? and also, out of the 4 job positions, which are the most widely employed?

Hi Hongge,

Thanks for sharing your experience. Since you took all your subjects with Kaplan, do you know anything about the Kaplan ACCA Professional Attachment Scheme? Will Kaplan help to arrange for the attachment at Big 4?

i believe this scheme is avail to full time student only, and you have to speak to the CSO for more information. i got my big4 internship notification via kaplan's mass email to the students and there will be a notice on the notice board. based on the notice, i emailed my resume and transcipts to big4 and they replied so my internship starts from there. as far as i know of the latest internship program, there were notices of internship opportunities with the mid-tier audit firm. that was like last nov. not sure any for now. kaplan helps to disseminate internship opportunity only, the application and so forth, is all self-service

this is subjective and i am not employed in all fields mentioned so i cant answer your qs. but its a known fact that if you get into big4, your starting should be $2400. mid-tier prob $2000.

in term of employability, ex-auditors are still highly sought after since they can take on wide spectrum of financial job scope and have high stress tolerance level.

P4 is more for those who work in finance line rather than accounting line
P5 is for managment accounting jobs
P6 for tax
P7 for audit

i took P6 & P7 with the intention to join big4 either in tax or audit depends on their offering but recently big4 pattern more than badminton la, headcount freeze, promotion freeze, lower increment, abolishing TOIL, more risk, more OT so i decided not to join big4 for now.

based on other ppl's comment, all say P4 is very tough. P7 is easy if you know ur P2 well. if not, it is going to create alot of prob.

Dominic once said this to his students, "y make life so difficult? juz take P5 and P7 graduate and go" so i assume in his perspective, those 2 papers are consider more achieveable.

ok so having p4 and p7, still allows you to apply for audit job? i have no interest in tax at all, just having difficulty choosing p4 and p5. i like management accounting but my foundation is damn weak as in i only took 3mths to study for f5 and it is more than 1yr ago since i touch management accounting, i am afraid i might not be able to make it.

i emailed kaplan regarding the professional attachment, application only starts aug/sept 09 and interning period from dec onwards. if anyone keen to do internship during june 09 period, u all can try http://www.accountlaw-tax.com.sg/Website_tlc/Careers.html

since acca changed syllabus, some of the students did not took F5 due to 2.1passed. i heard from classmate their friends who did not do F5 took P5 and passed. haha whereas my friend who likes F9 alot took up P4 and was struggling. didnt know if she passed as we did not contact anymore.

to choose options, consider the following

1. choose 2 fundamentals which u like best F5,6,8,9
2. choose 2 options that will helps in your career eg audit P6,7
3. if you dunno wat u like and not sure of ur career path, then choose the 2 highest scores form F5,6,8,9 or the most recently completed fundamentals

i took P6 and P7 bcos of my iniital plan to join big4 and it happened to be my highest scores between the four fundamentals. i was one of the exempted from F5 due to syllabus change so i did not choose P5 and i did not score well for F9 so P4 is out too.

thanks honge, i think to go into audit, taking p6 advance tax and p7 advance audit has higher chance or at least better for audit line. lol if i didnt ask, i would have go for p4 AFM instead. thanks for your advise. i know p6 advance tax is not easy too compare to p4. which lecturer taught you p6? i am thinking of yvone goh... only manage to attend her f6 class, not sure her performance in p6? advise?

my p6 lecturer was Jasmine Ang. now no longer teaching in kaplan. she was fantastic! esp her revision class was excellent. overall i find P6 is not really that tough under Jasmine's guidance. the toughest part is to recall back all the calculation from F6 which was so long ago. juggling between F6 and P6 not easy.

my 2.3 was under yvonne goh too. she is not bad la. very organise and systematic. should be able to deliver well for P6. last time ftc got a very gd tax lecturer ... forgot her name, i under her 2.3 revision class and passed with gd marks

btw taking P6 and P7 doesnt mean you have higher chance of getting into big4 audit. it just mean higher chance of being employed in big4 either in audit or tax. depending on their offering

Hi,

I am considering taking F1, F2 and F3 part time in the coming semester.

Besides attending classes at SAA, how many hours of study time do you recommend to spend per week on each subject?

Are the exam dates for these papers already known? Are there sufficient gaps between the papers for study time?

Thanks!

Anybody can advise regarding exam dates? I am the type who finds it hard to tackle exams on consecutive days.
