can tell me how to study for P1 exam, seriously, i really hate P1, is all about memorising and memorising to me or my method of studying is wrong?...

if u find it tough to memorise, den go for revision class, the lecturer will go thru alot of qs on codes. so much till even if u dun memorise the codes, u also will recall the gists.

P1 is tough on the ethics qs, cos ethics cannot be memorise, it is based on your moral.

Hi all,

I am currently studying accountancy in singapore poly. I would like to know:

1) Should i go to ACCA or CPA or ICPAS after my NS if i were to continue the accounting path.i would like to take the fastest path possible coz my grades aint that good =(

2) Whether is there any exemptions for the ACCA or CPA OR ICPAS modules from the diploma that i have studied.

3) Whether is ACCA alone enough for me to get the relevant work experience, because i wanted to work at some auditing firms or BIG 4.

4) What is the summary of the progress for the route of accountancy. As in after diploma/o lvl/ a lvl, what is next, and so on.

Thanks in advance =D

Google around or read the past threads. For more information, go to ICPAS.org and check it out. Plus, accaglobal.com. Should give u all the info you will ever need.

hi all,

since acca is all written exam, lectures

how do students learn IT skills?

it used to have a module on IT knowledge called 2.1, now scraped. only left with P3 with little content on software development life cycle etc.

but if you take up OBU degree, the requirement states that you'll need to demonstrate IT skills such as spreadsheets and powerpoint.

for accounting, i think spreadsheet skill is very important as auditor uses spreadsheet for their audit working papers. other than tat, i dun think accountant need so much IT skills.

Ahh....that's really up to the individual's motivation to pick up one of those Excel for Dummies etc. books. It's going to be tough at first, but with some practice, you can get by most tasks with moderate knowledge of IF statements, SUM functions, Autofilters, data validation etc. I'm trying to pick up a programming language on my own, hoping to do some basic programming like scripting to make myself more savvy. Tough, but doable ;)

I am currently a CAT student, going to acca soon.

Do u all learn individually?

Is there anywhere that teach excel(for accounting)?

What about SAP?

Maybe u can try calling or email ICPAS exams office. If still unfurtile... only way is to apply for ACCA student member after your UOL degree.
Why not do a CPA Singapore instead?

excel can learn on ur own or ask colleague how they prepare the template lor. most of the time, the template already prepared by some expert in the company already and u juz need to pluck in the numbers.

most companies provide training too, you can request for basic/advance spreadsheet courses.

as for SAP, it should be on the job training lor, junior account assistants will use basic modules like the AP and AR and as you progress up then you'll gain more access to higher level modules like project system, funds management etc

most likely you have to take F4-Law, F6-Tax. for professional level, local uni grad who takes on ACCA needs to complete 3-4 modules in P papers so i assume foreign degree also same treatment.

ACCA can bring u to both ACCA member and CPA SG if you complete 3yrs of relevant experience.

i read in ICPAS website before, UOL can lead to CPA SG as well, u might wish to go read up more on the website.

To gain a ACCA title, you need 3 years of work experience before/during or after your ACCA studies. Therefore, even u pass all required ACCA exams without required work experience, you can't use the ACCA title.

Only after passing ACCA exams and with 3 years of audit/work experience then u can get your CPA Singapore.

To get a CPA Singapore, u need to have the required work experience. If you are a degree holder already. Why not get your work experience and do the professional exams to get the CPA title. You don't have to do ACCA to get your CPA Singapore title.

But ultimately, it is up to you to weight the pros and cons. :o
