I'm not sure how is OBU relevant to Masters program but in the job market, I do not think it has any edge at all. no one recognises it, at all.
experience similar....ACCA + first class oxford brooke vs ACCA without OBU and score avg 50+. Other factors such as impression etc remained the same.

Who will u employ? I not saying it got recognised in any sectors. But u see the difference?

so to say, Plymouth is actually more recognised than OBU? I wonder y Plymouth is ok for sqp but nth heard bt other distance learning (Murdoch etc)
When u doing ACCA, it is complete whole ACCA that counts. Whereas having an OBU doesnt qualify u a degree holder unless u completed yr ACCA. Meaning with ACCA then it is to compliment it. OBU alone doesnt get u anyway as it mean u r partial ACCA holder who only completed level 2.

When u ask SQP, u should ask if u got ACCA plus obu can get into SQP? Ans is wait for MRA with ACCA. Oxford brooke degree is just an add on degree to say ACCA graduate is also a degree grad.

9) I am currently pursuing my degree programme in SIM external University of London (Accounting and Finance). Will I be eligible for SQP?

The minimum entry requirement into the Singapore QP is a recognised university degree, both local and overseas. Individuals with accredited accountancy degrees will be offered direct entry into the Professional Programme component of the Singapore QP. At this point in time, the accountancy degrees offered by Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore, Singapore Management University and SIM University have been granted provisional accreditation status for the purpose of gaining direct entry into the Singapore QP.

Individuals with non-accredited degrees will be required to go through the Singapore QP Foundation Programme, whereby he/ she may be granted certain exemptions for prior learning. In the case of the SIM-UOL Accounting and Finance degree, which currently is a non-accredited degree, the granting of the level of exemptions for prior learning will be assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on the nature and coverage of the modules which were taken during your degree programme.

that means if students are having obu degree is ok, just have to take additional foundation programme?

Can anyone advise if p5 can be self studied? How's the exam format for p5 like?

Compared to p4, which one is easier? Many thanks.

First of all I have gained better understanding of the ACCA syllabus after reading through this informative thread. So thanks for everything. Otherwise, I would be very lost, especially since I only started taking my first paper back at the end of december. Managed to clear F1, F2, F3 on first attempts recently.

However, I need some help deciding which variant to sit for this upcoming June exams. I want to take F6(Tax), F7(FR), F8(Audit).

I know tax must be SG variant. that is given. However, I only have text for F6 (SG) - December 2011, F7 (Int) - June 2010 and F8(Int) - Dec 2010.

Given the texts that I have, my questions are as follow:

1) Is it still advisable for me to take the SG variant for F7 and F8?
2) Is SG variant papers an entry requirement for CPA qualification?
3) Should I be getting updated text for any of the papers?

And I also read here that there something called SQ that is going to replace to CPA. My friend recommended me to be a ICPAS member for auto conversion to CPA upon completion of ACCA. May I ask given the situation now, is it still advisable to be a ICPAS member?

Sorry for being noob. Thanks for the help guys!

Are u an ICPAS plus member currently? Seem like u just register in 2012 which mean u r an ACCA route only member.

I think p5 it can be self studied as calculation wise it's not very technical. Alot of theory and interpretation in p5 than calculation..

Basically go which one u r stronger at. If u feel u like calculation type den take p4. If analysis n interpretation then p5. Both papers are not easy

Hi Derrick,

I think you will not be able to enter as ICPAS Plus route as the last batch of students who can enter under this scheme is by Dec 2011 and must choose to opt in by Sept 2012.

Therefore, you must wait for the new mutual agreement between QP and ACCA and see how it affects you. My prediction is that since ACCA had won the tender to become a consultant in pro SAC committee to develop this QP programme in 2010. I am sure somehow or so ACCA graduate in future can still enter for QP program. Just that they have to go through professional (more likely to be this) or academic level of the QP.

From my understanding Tax changes almost every year. Best to get new books. F7 and F8 not sure, if you really want to save money, can try to look compare the syllabus guidelines for the current syllabus to the one in your books. Whether to take Int or SG variant, up to you. Im taking SG variant cause my whole point of it is that it would lead on to relevancy in my work(staying in Singapore to work) and should I plan to go overseas I would then take other papers then or something. As what everyone here knows, SQP is going to implement a slew of changes to how the whole CPA **** works, cant be sure what's the entry requirement gonna be like :s11: But im guessing it should be more emphasized on SG variants, since local uni grads study SG standards from my understanding. There is going to be lesser and lesser differences between the variants as well, heard that all the standards are gonna get combined and universalized, including the GAAP (according to my ACCA lecturer Sami).
Hope this helps :)

Currently only accountancy graduates from the 3 local universities (NTU, SMU and NUS), applicants who have completed the final examinations of the recognized professional qualifications, or those who have passed the ICPAS Professional Examination can apply to be our Associate Members. You may proceed to apply for Associate Membership online only if you have completed any of the final examination listed in our website.

Hence based on the current constitution, if you have passed the final examination in accountancy from ACCA and obtained the final transcript and professional level certificate from ACCA, you will be able to apply for the associate membership.

To be eligible for reclassification to CPA Singapore, you would need to fulfil the following: -

1. Approved as a Associate Member;

2. Attended and Passed 5 days Pre-Admission Course (PAC)#;

3. Possess at least 3 years post qualification or 5 years pre-post qualification relevant working experience*;

4. Proficiency in Local Tax and Law (passed the Singapore variant tax and law paper during your ACCA qualification; the alternative to this criteria is to either 1) attend and pass local tax and law paper conducted by ICPAS Professional Examination OR 2) Possess 2 years of relevant working experience in Singapore)

Thats the reply I obtained fro ICPAS after asking about the plus or non plus option. I registed in June 2012, and was not eligible for the plus route as well. Asked them if I would still be able to enter ICPAS n b associate member. Sounds to me like we have no difference to the plus members in terms of qualifying for the associate membership of ICPAS. :s12:
