Helping my fren to post:

Hi all,

Need some advice. I am 35 year-old.
I have my engineering degree and work in engineering field.
I took ACCA two years ago. I finished all F papers (F1-F9) but I didn't take the OBU. Any advice that should I switch to Accountant journey? What is the starting pay if I only clear F papers without the OBU?

Thx in advance.

Previously, I take Donmic's P3 class. But, I find it hard to absorb from his way of teaching as it is too messy for me. If I have to re-take P3, should I take Andy or Marty's class?

TIA!:)

I took FTMS-Marty Class in July intake 2014. I feel his class is quite interesting and relax. But I don't really like his teaching way especially in term of theory. He explained the theory quite fast and every time I can't really absorb it as busying in copying the note.

Hi, have the following questions for F4
1. Do we really need to go to lectures to understand it? I heard many self study and score good marks.

2. What textbooks are good?

3. Whose notes are good?

Thanks!

If you do not have any experience in accounting, you will get ard 2k only. It is better you finish all then switch and you can get starting ard 2.5k. But since you have another degree, some employer may be willing to pay higher for that

Starting pay if you completed F1 to F9 should be around $2k-2.5k.

Thanks for the reply.
My friend is considering whether to switch career now or wait till he finish the P level papers. He will start his P paper soon.

I think his teaching style is quite similar to Domnic. Maybe If I have to retake P3, Andy should be a better choice.:)

Haiz...hope I can pass P3, than no need retake..:(

Can I have a general idea of how the PER is like? I understand that we need to complete 3 years of practical work experience, and this can only be obtained if we are working in a company which is under ACCA approved employers list right? So for e.g, do we apply for jobs in these companies and tell them we need mentors for our ACCA PER prerequisites? Or how is it like to kickstart this 3 years PER ? Thanks

From what I know, it is two different things.

Once you pass all papers = ACCA affiliate.
To put the title ACCA on your name = 3 years working experience + complete PER.

PER can be completed by two ways, either you complete the practical experience and submit to your mentors and they approve or you get exemption by working with ACCA approved employer*.

*Only gold and Platinum employer + subject to HR approval + must work for at least one month there.

If just ACCA affiliate, will it have great impact on your future career progression or salary?

Hmm, you mean if I'm working with an ACCA approved employer, then I don't need to work for 3 years to complete PER?

nono. 3 years working experience is 1 criteria. PER is another criteria.

PER you login your acca portal you can view it one. that one can get exemption by working with ACCA approved employer.

Working experience cannot be exempted one.

I am not sure ACCA affiliate and ACCA member will it have any impact on career.

Affiliate or member may not necessarily be the main consideration from employer point of view. What matters more is competence. Title only help to open the door and thats really all that it does, unless you are gunning to be cfo or audit partner, then make sure you get your titles.

And, do your best at work and shine. What also matters is rapport, networking and experience.

Unfortunately, you have to go through the lectures. It is quite tough to understand the terms via self study. Google may help, but in class learning gives a bigger boost to learning. A lecture can save you hours of hair pulling. Makes your subsequent revision more efficient too.

My pick is kaplan and bpp. I used both last time and they are ok. Ultimately, it boils down to your learning style and how fast you take to comprehend the text.

No comments about the notes.

Salary varies a lot and it correlates with market demand and supply. It depends on how much value an employer place on the employee, aside from the experience and qualification aspect.

Timing of the job search is an important consideration and how far one is willing to cast his or her nets.

Dont need to panic. So long you did your best, there is nothing to fear over.

Exams are like walls. To quote randy pausch, walls are there for you to show badly you want something. You will overcome. Its jus a matter of timing.
