Can i know if F8 is also theory paper ? advisable to attend tutorial ?

f8 audit is a pure theory paper. sadly, i feel its better to attend the lectures as what is being done simultaneously in real life audit would have to be documented step by step in the exam which does not seem to be realistic given the amount of time one has for an actual audit engagement. just write what the examiner wants in exam. once you have the chance to do audit next time, you will know how 'funny' it is.
Thank you for the details, seems like it's a good idea that I've signed up for F5 and F6 and thinking about self study for F4.
I've actually been to all 3 schools to enquire on the courses and below is my personal comparison.
SAA : Cheapest but seems very dis-organised. Everything also dunno and end up the whole team come and take turns to answer.....
Kaplan : knowledgeable and good.
Lsbf : knowledgeable and good but more expensive then kaplan.
feel that kaplan guys more friendly so end up signing up for kaplan.
i have the exact sentiments and share the same opinion with you except that i feel that the premium charged by lsbf can be justified by their quality of lectures and materials. kaplan is also excellent with their pool of lecturers, customer service and fair course fees.
in fact to be fair, SAA used to be really good (2-3 years ago) and students were normally deciding whether to undertake lessons at either SAA OR kaplan. LSBF was new in the market and they had lecturers for only certain modules. ftms was not really heard of during my studies until recently where they have a few renowned lecturers (i think it was martin). now we have more choices such as m2 and some ocean school providing acca courses too.
nowadays, service standards at SAA are mediocre ever since they had a new campus at somerset and had their administrative department moved there. classrooms at aljunied where students could do their revision were so limited since level 2 was given up to a childcare/kindergarten(?). they replaced their administrative counter at level 1 with a gym i think. my friends and i were once chased out of the classroom at saa 1 week before acca exam as some of the classrooms had to be used to conduct some revision lessons or had to be used to conduct exams for other courses. we had already foreseen such a situation when level 2 and level 6 classrooms were not made available anymore.
Very disappointing since my friends and i easily undertook at least 10/14 of the acca papers at SAA and we could feel and physically see the drastic change in service standards. try calling the hotline and most of the time you would be directed to voice mail or have to wait some time before a staff picks up and impatiently answers you (most likely having to put you on a hold multiple times to check with their colleagues etc).
i recently called to enquire about the prizewinners/cpe vouchers but was told by one senior lady on the phone that the prizewinners list was not out. i told her the list was actually published and was already on your school's website for about a month and asked her if she could check. she just simply brush me off and said no its not out, you just wait for someone to call you or you tomorrow call back and check with the exam department. you can see the level of cooperation between their departments with just this simple scenario. :s22
save some moolah and pay a bit more to have a more conducive environment and updated materials if you can afford. don't compromise your results or end up having to wait another 3-6 months just to take the same paper repeatedly. time is money.

u didnt take into account lsbf have 2-3 lessons more and the duration for each class is 30mins more.lsbf is more value for money overall
hi,
would like to check with you how long are lsbf classes normally? specifically, for evening classes.

3.5 hrs,17-18 lessons
hmmm.. 17-18 lessons is the same as SAA depending on which module you are taking. The lesson timings are also 3.5 hours currently at SAA for evening lessons. Starts at 6.45pm and ends at 10.15pm.

just settle for anything first lor. faster amass 3 years of experience first.

tried audit and accounting. now in accounting. looking to try out tax in big 4 or other coys if an opportunity arise. i am more interested in tax haha but few companies hiring tax associates. all want senior.
For my work, I'll need to travel overseas so too many lesson will not be good for me, but my options is definitely taking some modules from kaplan and some from lsbf. So far saa doesn't give me any confident at all.

waw, i find tax all require min one year experience.. am thinking how anyone got started in the first place
I think most people start from tax assistant at smaller firm then go to big firm. Recently I ask a associate from big 4 tax dept, he said their tax dept mainly take in only local grad only.

Transitional Arrangements to be CA (Singapore)
Hi,
I was reading about the transitional arrangements to be CA (Singapore) on ISCA website and noticed that one of the conditions is to "possess at least 3 years post qualification or 5 years pre-post qualification relevant working experience" by 31 Dec 2018. So if I am currently still doing ACCA (trying to complete the last 4 P papers) and does not have relevant working experience so far, does that mean that it will not be possible to satisfy this condition anymore? If yes, what will be the alternative solution to be a CA?
Also, is being CA in Singapore that important? Do all of you here aim for that or will ACCA qualifications be enough?
