lsbf = 一分钱一分货. you want to have a shot at being a prize winner then you shouldn't leave them out imo.

note: i only had an opportunity to attend their free tax update seminar by Yvonne Goh but was amazed by their lecturer's clarity and thoroughness in the topics covered. my gf switched from saa to lsbf. had a look at their materials and its definitely way better in terms of quality and content wise.. i would have made the change in school if lsbf wasn't that pricey in the first place.. still, very appreciative to the lecturers who helped me passed my papers but very disappointed with how SAA seemed to be performing poorly overall. coming from someone who took all 14 papers with SAA..

Hi all,

I am confused and need help from existing students. Which is better if I am interested in accounting? ACCA or Unisim part-time accountancy program?

Does ACCA allow one to be CA in future? I know Unisim accountancy can as stated in the CA website.

Thanks in advance.

you could have been one of my classmates as we both graduated same time haha.

i saw examples of lsbf materials much more comprehensive and overall, easier to digest. physical quality of their notes are not compromised also. i heard they will also email you after every class the lecturer's notes and whatever was gone through in PDF format (not sure if got voice recording of lecture). the only part which i didn't like was that their revision classes are back-to-back like 3-4 days in a row which i don't think will work for me. too little time to digest.

saa notes i feel like chunky and very general. some notes the examples are a bit outdated and do not seem to reflect well the changes in recent exams.. although the notes can be reused for many sittings but not good if you aim to score well for a paper.. there must be a reason why saa's prize winners of an average of 10-15 in the past, now drop to just 5 in recent december 2014 exam.. whereas number of prizewinners from lsbf are consistently high (not sure about kaplan cause they don't really have a prizewinners column in their website).

to add on, my experience in SAA was that some of the notes i needed to go collect when classes started but sometimes the materials can actually run out of stock or the staff say not available cause haven't arrive. then they will tell us that they will inform us when the stock is here. most of the time, they will forget to call you. you need to keep going to the facilities room to check and beg them to give you. sometimes due to miscommunications, the staff will thought that you have collected before and want to collect an extra set. i actually missed out on collecting some materials because i didn't even know there were additional materials being released halfway into the course since no staff mentioned. we have some foreign students in class and they normally had to stay in school to clock hours for attendance so they actually found out somehow that there were additional notes and shared the info with the rest who didn't know.

congratulations in advance.

if you find yourself struggling in f3, f9, then you should take p5.
if you find yourself struggling in f2, f5, then you should take p4.
if you find yourself struggling in f2, f3, f5, f9, you might want to change your mind and take other optional papers, or simply work harder. good luck.

P Papers

Hi everyone,

I am currently choosing options for P4 to P7 and not sure which I should take. Any advice on which directions I should be considering to help me make my choice?

Thanks!

Thanks Fliks for replying! I'm not sure if I'm struggling with those papers as i had stopped 8 yrs before continuing with P3 this year. I do not like audit and tax previously in the foundation levels, that's why I'm looking at P4 & P5.

Hi wsw123, we are nearly in same boat, just that you had finished the core papers while I'm still with P1, hopfully can pass P3. ;)

Noted the advice form Flicks. I am actually more keen to know if we should choose the P papers according to the career path we are keen to take. Or, it doesn't really matter and we should choose the ones which are easier to manage and pass?

choose according to what you like. BUT you wouldn't want to find yourself getting stuck at that paper for more than 2 attempts (thats equivalent to 1 year back then, with the new exam session being revised, probably cut down by 50% to 6 months duration).

afterall, what you study might not be what you would be doing in the future.. in my opinion, pass the papers first, in future you will have all the time you need to research and find out more about the field you are interested in.

the worst case is you picked something you thought you were actually interested in, and then find yourself stuck at the paper for 3-5 attempts, then decide to change paper and find that the new paper is the one that interests you the most.

how about kaplan? I signed up for F5 and F6 with kaplan and thinking of self study for F4.

i am sorry but i'm not too sure about kaplan. i heard yvonne goh used to teach there though. wanted to switch to kaplan for some papers when lsbf just entered the market back then (about 2-3 years ago). but saa was overall cheaper so i just stuck with it.

as there have been changes to fundamental level papers, i can't really advise you other than the fact that pass rates for f4 have shot up from an average of 35% to about 70% due to mcq questions. one can easily pass the f4 paper just by the mcq as compared to back then where we had to struggle and write furiously for the 3 hours for 10 pure theory questions. haha.

imo, f4 can self study now.
f5, better to go for classes to let lecturers explain the different way the questions could be tweaked to trick students. some get stuck at this paper.
f6 please don't self study if you have no prior knowledge of it as the syllabus keeps changing.

good luck.
