There are several questions that i would need help from all of you:

1) I would like to ask what is the career prospect if i have completed ACCA but without account experience? As i did ACCA during my two years in NS.


2) I am about to enter SMU to read accountancy in two months time. Is it redundant to take up accounting if i have completed ACCA, considering that it is a 4 years course in uni.


3) My aim is to be auditor in one of the big 4, would it be tough if i use solely my ACCA cert?

Are you going to SMU for your masters? If it's a bachelor degree course, it's a waste of time since you have completed ACCA.

It is difficult (but still possible) to enter big 4 with ACCA and no experience.

4 years bachelor course. not sure whether to jump straight into work to gain 4 years working experience

Forget about the smu course then, just go straight to work. Junior audit positions in big 4 are not hard to get into.

I guess it will be tough as i just ORDed with no working experience.

Yeah, took my final paper in June, now waiting for result.

How did you do it in army? It's amazing. Did you self study all acca papers? Passed all at one go? Did you go for any revision class?

I was lucky to be in 8-5 vocation, which allows me to take up part time studies at night.

I self studied quite a number of paper (F1,2,5,9 & P3)

I managed to pass all at one go.

I believe it is a MUST to attend the revision class as the lecturers will be teaching you on how to tackle the questions, key areas to focus, this is important if you do not have sufficient time to do the revision kit. Also, I learnt the most during revision class, i believe i would have failed if i didn't attend.

While it is important to attend the normal class to grasp the concept, but i find it hard to do the questions because the lecturers did not spent much time going through questions as they focus on teaching the concept.

Side track abit, i find P2 the hardest of all the P papers.

What about P4 and P5? Why you didn't choose either one of them? Not interested in Finance or Management? There are quite a few who choose P4 & P7.

My main reason for taking P7 is due to SG legislative requirement (2a(vi)) as below, which requires us to complete P7 to be a public accountant.I didn’t do very well for F8 though..

Still considering. I understand that P7 is FRS based and I find P2 hard as well, didn't do very well for F8 either.

By the way, I saw your smu course in para 2(a)(ix), it's a waste of time if you go for it.

4 years is a long time. I would try to get into the big 4 now if I were you. Or get into mid tier firm and work for 2 years and then move up to the big 4. But if you can't get into the mid-tier within these 2 months, I think you should go ahead with the SMU degree. I'm doing ACCA in NS now too, so those are my plans

If you are an ACCA student who registered after 31 July 2013 and wish to qualify for the CA (Singapore) designation, you will first need to:

-successfully complete the ACCA examinations
-satisfy relevant work experience requirements and
-become a full member of ACCA.

You may then apply for the CA (Singapore) designation using the terms of the proposed Reciprocal Membership Agreement (RMA) between ACCA, ISCA and SAC to be executed with an indicative timeline of December 2016.

4 years is a long time. I would try to get into the big 4 now if I were you. Or get into mid tier firm and work for 2 years and then move up to the big 4. But if you can't get into the mid-tier within these 2 months, I think you should go ahead with the SMU degree. I'm doing ACCA in NS now too, so those are my plans

4 years is indeed a very long time as I will be learning the same stuff over again , which is why i am quite hesistant to take up degree now.

You also doing ACCA in NS?!? It is manageable? Are you going to take up degree afterwards?

There is a timeline that you need to meet to qualify for the reciprocal membership. The degree is still good for accounting roles in other industries.
