Hi=) Which course are you applying in Uni?

ACCA stands for Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. Basically, it is a professional qualification meaning that you will graduate with both accounting related knowledge/skill and experience whereas UOL/SMU/NUS/NTU's degree is an academic qualification.

ACCA is internationally recognised qualification consisting of Exams+Ethics+Experience. So, you need to complete a total of 14 papers exam (maybe less if you've exemptions), i.e. maximum of 4papers per June/Dec exam period). You also need to do Ethics module at a later stage and 3 years of working experience in accounts-related field.

Can someone advise?

I just registered for ACCA and plan to self-study F1-F3. Would like to ask if ACCA will send some kind of guide that will cover the syllabus in detail; like a textbook, or should i purchase the study texts from the official publishers?

Thanks in advance.

the disadvantage of self studying is you have to source the syllabus, content coverage and key area yourselves. Those who take up classes will have those covered in their lecturer notes. and FYI, students rarely study the textbook because it is very simple and definitely not sufficient for exam and knowledge purpose. the lecturer note and exam kits are key to success. i strongly suggest you to take up classes because at the latter papers, it requires you to have strong fundamental and if you are not proficient enough for it... failure is very likely. my advise is dun scrimp on that 3 subjects classes and end up losing more latter on. don't be penny wise pound foolish.

Hi for those who have just become an affiliate, are you all going to the grad ceremony? What do they do there and it is worth it to go? Not sure if I should go.

Hi Michya. I too is thinking whether or not to skip the grad ceremony, haha..

Its kind of expensive in my opinion ($220) but I believe there will be great food and drinks after the ceremony.

For people who skipped the ceremony, do they send the cert to you instead? Or self collect?

Hi, yeah the money we are paying will be for the rental of place & food. Will wine be served? Haha.

Anyone has any experience what it is like? Is it just eating & waiting for your name to be called and some speeches? Hmm, I wonder what was the response like in the previous sessions.

Edit: Ah I see, thanks, hongge for the info.

My old school calculator (FX 991MS) gone case already. Would like to check with seniors if there are any specific calculators (e.g. financial calculators) which would be required for later modules? If not, I would just get another Casio.

how do CBEs work?

CBE is only for F1, F2 and F3. In singapore, i only know of two places that offers CBE Exams, one of them is FTMS and the other is SAA. SAA seems to be cheaper at $175.00

CBE is offered all year round. For the exact date. You need to check with the schools.
Once you sign up. You will receive a receipt from the school and they will tell you what time to report and remember to bring your ID or ACCA card.

On the day, you be assigned a computer and log in using their password and follow their instruction. Then once the exam start. Just click and click. You can go back and forward between the question. Once you are confident of your answers you can choose to do till the exam time stop or else you can finish the paper. Remember to follow the instructions given carefully regarding saving your answer.

Once you click to finish the exam. You will receive the results immediately!!!!

Your results will then be sent to ACCA Office and be updated to your database in erm... I think is 2 weeks or one months time...cant remember...

U need to take note of the exam cycle. For example, in Dec 2009 exam, you can take up to four ACCA papers. So for Dec 2009 exam, if you take CBE between July 2009 to Jan2010. It will be counted as Dec 2009 exam cycle.

Advantage of taking CBE is u know the results immediately and you can retake if you fail ..quite fast... so you dont need to wait till Jun 2010 if you fail your Dec 2009 exam. in this way, you can grad faster if you fail, you will also know the results faster..

But I heard (dun know true or not) CBE is harder than the paper exam.

How i know about CBE ? Becos my F1 and F2 is taken thru CBE... hehe

Even though it is MCQ, but I also see a few failure in the class for CBE exams. For F2, just keep on practicing the questions on revision kit and follow your lecturers advice like more important and sure to come out topic like process accounting and relevant costing.

Some advice from Student Accoutant magazine will be make sure you are well prepared then you book for the exams.

If you have decided to book for the CBE exams, make sure u call and check the date and ask for vacancy becos there is limited vacancy for each date. Make sure you don't miss the exam cycle.

is Ben Lee teaching ACCA in SAA or wherelse? what paper is he teaching? is he good?

ya...Ben Lee is teaching F2,F3,F7 in SAA, he is very good!

Btw, i'm a SAA student, but i wonder should i move to kaplan next semester? Because lectures at Saa are very good, but i hate the new manager there, he's so tricky and always gives trouble to students, especial international students. we have to attend at school for all day from mon to fri  last week i have to come back my country for few days cause of my sis's wedding, I submitted the absent form together with my air-ticket but he did not approve, he asked me to show him my sis's marriage certificate :s11: what kind of manager is he? it's so trouble for me, because i just back to my country for 3 days and i have no time to translate and notarize the certificate. and the school also not nice at all.

how about the lectures at kaplan? any comments for me? should i transfer to kaplan? thx

No. If that were possible, i would've skipped straight to Level 3.
