difference when you go to yvonne goh's lessons compared to goh sher wee's

she consistently stretches the lectures to an additional 15 minutes because she uses all the 3 hours minus 10 minutes break to explain tax concepts.

goh sher wee would give you sums to do in class and go for at least 3 breaks per 3.5 hours' lesson. on the average, he takes about 4 breaks a lesson.

goh sher wee teaches for 2 hours on the average out of the 3.5 hours class time allocated. the rest is used to advertise how great he thinks he is...

he is the first person i met who claimed he invented the "number line" method of sketching and analysis... interestingly, I learnt this from my primary school too...

he also claimed that there are 3-5 companies with a non 31sth dec year end and they are all his ex-students...

folks who give up and switch to UOL because ACCA is tough... are surprised to see Goh Sher Wee teaching tax? at UOL too... (as he claims, non verified on my end)

when he does not produce prize-winners... compared to yvonne goh who does... he would claim cause he has more students and more classes...

actually, no.

this dec 2010 alone, yvonne has 4 days where she has daily tax classes...

goh sher wee isn't that packed in terms of demand for his tax class.

informally, goh sher wee is known to be "not that good" when it comes to ACCA F7 Singapore variant, after the feedback of the 3 f7 students that I asked personally and the collective internet community has a converging opinion that f7 is not his strength.

but of course, knowing goh sher wee.... you would expect that he would say things like "I can teach every subject of ACCA's papers." And he did say something to that effect... well, to be frank, I can teach too... the difference is... can you command a class size bigger than say, Yvonne?

in my review, goh sher wee should be in the advertising line... he may have a bigger and better office than his lone accounts/audit firm located in chinatown...

but again... all that he does is to repeat to the students... "I am good" but doesn't show how he beat the competition... (Yvonne at Kaplan's side)... and in this factual, empiricist world... Good is defined by prize winners produced in the same amount of time that your competitor did... And I am sure, Goh Sher Wee does not produce as many prize winners as Yvonne Goh in the same flexed amount of time...

so...

choose at your own peril... to-be-F6 students for Jun 2011 F6 students...

if you fail under goh sher wee... go to yvonne and you would be a zealot like me who advocates...

GOH SHER WEE is ALL HOT AIR... compared to Yvonne Goh when it comes to teaching ACCA F6 Tax (Singapore variant).

personally, I feel students should avoid Goh Sher Wee for any subject related to reporting. He claims he knows it all, and that may very well be true, but he doesn't impart those knowledge well. He is a true master at hubris though.

Any friend out there would like to recommend good lecturers for F5, F6, F7, & F8 to me?

i wanted to ask the same questions too! after doing some look at the forums and threads, the below is like a short list and hope experienced can help recommend:

F4
SAA: Tan PK, Adrian
Kaplan: Kweh

F6
SAA Stephen, Goh SW
Kaplan: Yvonne

F7
SAA: James
Kaplan: Sami, Roy

F8
SAA: Chee
Kaplan: Connie

No data from my side for F5, all lecturers seem to have mixed comment and no "outstanding" or "outside standing" type

Also, I wonder which paper I should take for next intake. F5 and F7 are kind of cfm papers for me, so to keep knowledge from F2 and F3 fresh. I wonder if I should go for F4 law, F6 tax, f8 audit or f9 fin mgmt.

my friend did advise me to halt f6 tax cos if I take and *choy* fail, the dec11 f6 tax will be diff from jun11 f6 tax. any comment on this?

is there any "prerequisite" to taking f8 and f9?

thanks guys!

I have done my ACCA at kaplan, the lecturers there are good lah.
Sami, Yvonne, Roy goh are good in their subjects.

If you are hardworking enough actually you need not go for the revision class you can practice on your own. Anything you don't understand you can actually go find the lecturers to clarify. They are friendly and approachable.

Sorry for posting this again, I have taken F7 Jan 2010, but have not passed yet and have no time to attend revision classes this sem. Anyone taking F7 at Kaplan under Mr Sami? Would like to pay a little to get the scanned notes from kaplan elearning portal

As a lecturer myself, I will avoid commenting on favourite tutors!

However, when choosing which order to do F papers, take care:

- F5 exam is sat at the same time as P1, so if you delay F5 until after other higher numbered F papers, you might cause problems for yourself

- same is true for F7 and P2 exams

- I think F8 is easier if you have as much accounts knowledge as possible, so I would avoid doing F8 before F7

Most people tell me that F9 feels easier after F5. I also regularly hear that F4 and F6 are not too bad IF you are prepared to put the hours in and know them inside out - whereas F8 requires more on understanding and appliation, rather than pure knowledge.

Hope this helps!

Hi All,
I am just graduated from SIM with UOL degree majoring in Accounting and Finance. I am considering whether to work 1st and take CPA or take ACCA 1st. bcos i don't know how to become a CPA. As I know, if I want to become a CPA, i need to clear some papers 1st before i can enrol for the CPA exam. But, are there any tuition provider provide these courses?

google icpas

Agree with dwyw88.Just a note here,if you did not take the required units by ICPAS in your UOL exams, you have to top them up and take the 5 compulsory papers (no exemptions) for CPA Singapore exam.

Just check this for your UOL degree if you want to take this pathway.Or else, you can choose ACCA instead which has tuition providers.

clockclock: i cant comment on other lecturer, but i would say i always enjoy going to kweh lesson.

another thing is, can anyone tell me about whether any of F4-F9 papers will clash with the P papers, as well, i am pretty stucked to my next semester programme. i am doing F1-4 now, and i am concerned that the neat 4 subjects is F5,6,7,9. wonder if that will schrew up the schedule, as i do not wish to take F8 next semester since that nicholas woo is teahing and i truly hate his style(and on top of that, the 18C room temperature he set). hopefully they going to change lecturer...
