so am i right to say that Kweh Soon Han will be a better bet with better/clear lecture notes and good teaching method?

Mr Kweh Soon Han's teaching method is quite exam focus and I think it really benefitted those who hate reading long stories reason being most of the notes are in point form. Interesting way of putting the lecture across to students at avery steady pace and not even rushing. Funny guy too. =)

Anyway I just signed up for sami's F7&9 classes. Anyone going for his lectures too? can pm me. :)

Should be the case. I was Terence's student and I can vounch that his notes is really quite messy. I had to make my own notes for better understanding. But Terence is quite clear when he explains some law concepts.

Terence is good for his vast experience, and he has many interesting cases to tell as well, so the lectures are never too boring. But then Kweh is also quite a good-humoured person, and he has his own tales too.

For my exam revision, I totally gave up on Terence's notes (I signed up for his class but ended up crashing Kweh's later on) and just read the Kaplan textbook, which is much much clearer. Terence's notes is only useful if everything is already in your head and you just need a refresher on the main points-- you have to copy/arrange all the rest yourself during class.

I just enrolled in SAA for F8 n have collected the textbook. May i check with those with taken F8 before, is the textbook necessary or the lecture notes are sufficient to cover the topics?

The textbook doesnt seemed to be recognised by ACCA, no mention of F8 name or anythg. Seems weird as i all along studied in Kaplan. Any advise?

I think this book is based on Singapore context whereas BPP and authorised publishers focus on international context. I believe I have the same book as you as I just bought it on second hand basis. I read first chapter and learn that Singapore Standards on Auditing is almost equivalent to International Standards on Auditing. I think Singaporeans will find it easier to understand in Singapore context.

CCH don't publish ACCA-style study text but publish textbooks like laws and other professional relevant subjects. That is why it is not in ACCA's approved publisher lists.

I called SAA to check if its approved by ACCA. A lady said it was and I'm still waiting for her to email me the documentation proof that she had to verify its approved by ACCA. Why cant they just stick with BPP instead... :s11::s11:

U attended his class before? I wondered how his teaching style like? This is my first time at SAA, previously at Kaplan.

Anyway, SAA publishes F4 and F6 on its own (for singapore variants) and switch from BPP to GTG for all papers except F4,F6,F8 starting from July Intake. I was informed by this via email last month. It may be just SAA's opinion for us to be exposed to Singapore contexts such as ACRA in the case of the choice of F8 study text/textbook.

yup. for f8 and p7. he simplifies the context which makes it easy for us to absorb and understand. and he likes to go through questions everytime he finishes a section. tends to share jokes to make the class more relaxed and his fav line is 'rmb this joke and u'll rmb XXX (a particular point that he wants to emphasize)'. :D for me, i find his revision class and notes pretty useful cos he compiles everything that is needed for exam.

just out of curiosity, why the switch?? i thought helena johnson from kaplan is pretty good?? i am with SAA since i started SAA except for F9 (sami) so not too familiar with the lecturers in kaplan. and my friend is thinking of taking helena's class.

i signed up for their p6 class before exams but they send me any email. i even asked the admin staff during sign up and they know nuts! :( i seriously prefer BPP! cos GTG's qn and ans are a bit weird.

I'm afraid helena's style is unsuitable for me, i prefer locals. Plus many say Mr Chee is good in F8 thus the switch.. Thanks:)

During my time I did F8 with Nicholas Woo at Kaplan. He is very clear in his explanation and he is also very approachable. I never took Helena because I heard she basically read from the notes and she is very boring. A lot of my frens told me Mr Chee from SAA is really good but no chance to take from him. Another lecturer whom in my opinion is very good is Ms Chu Mui Kim from Kaplan. I took her revision and was quite impressed that within a short 6 lessons she was managed to cover all the gist of Audit. But unfortunately she is no longer teaching in Kaplan.

Really ah. I never see GTG study text and revision kits. So I can't make any comments. IMHO, BPP's revision kit took all past year ACCA exam questions. For F7, I notice that it took all questions from 2007 to 2010 and some from 2.5.

If we find that GTG's revision kit is unsatisfactory, we can refer to ACCA exam questions mah.

Yeah, Chu Mui Kim was my POA lecturer in degree course. She is committed to teach her students with her gentleness and is very approachable to answer any questions. It is sad to hear that she is not teaching at Kaplan any more.

actually the question should be how many papers do you intend to take including F5? If you are taking only 2 papers. Take F4 and F5. Reason being they are not back to back papers and most probably I suggest you go to Kaplan for F4(Kweh Soon Han or Terence Tan) and LSBF(Sami) for F5.

If however you want to take 3 papers including F5. I would advice taking F7. I often dun recommend taking back to back papers, being F5 and F7. However, since you already have background knowledge in F5 it should not be a huge problem. F7 go to LSBF Sami. I think if you want to enroll Sami's class better hurry. At this point of time his class would usually be fully booked.

ok, so i assume u left with F45789

since you are taking F 5, F9 should not be attempted as there is certain interlink betywen the two. so that leaves you with F478, which are theory based. they arent really interlink, so any of thm should be fine. oh prepare to memorise a lot of theory.
