Hi, there, i have no accounting backgrounds, just graduated from poly this yr. I heard many acc friends saying that if u want to enter acc line, take ACCA is better, is it true? Is it that both kaplan and lsbf provide ACCA? Which one should i go for? Any suggestions? Im confused.....

There are some transitional arrangements for ACCA students to become a CAS. Go google for it as I do not have enough post count to post a link

There is uncertainty about ACCA students (registered before 31Jul13) if you cannot finish all exams by 2018. You may have to read more on that because I've not really gone much into it.

LSBF, Kaplan, SAA, FTMS are some of the tution providers. Most people go by tutors. You may ask in this thread for each module in due time. I think more emphasis are on tutors for F4 onwards since the first 3 are multiple choices and fairly easy.

Ya, struggling with my last option paper. Sorry, transitional is not for you too. This is more appropriate

"What happens if I register after 31st July 2013 for the ACCA programme?

After you complete the ACCA programme and become a full member of the ACCA, you will have to depend on the terms of the current Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) between ICPAS and ACCA if you wish to qualify for the CA Singapore designation. More details on the MRA will be announced in due course."

those who do not pass also need to depends on the MRA, which is uncertain.

Hi
i have been reading the acca thread for some time, and have some simple qns.

1) how do i go about register for acca? is it thru the acca website or the tution provider eg saa/ kaplan? also, can i go down and register instead of applying online? can i apply anytime or do i have to follow the register intake date?

online seems good, it was not available when i signed up. your register intake is the tution providers course registration, not relevant to registration of acca. you can also get them to register for you but it takes time for overseas mailing. you can check with them if they can register you halfway since you are not taking up their class now. no point registering for jul/aug classes when you want to start asap.

2) the acca 10 yrs limit means applicable only just for the 14 paper exams? Or all the exams, 36 monts experience and inclusive of the 13 objective?

i believe even if you really take 10 years for all papers, you should start working from your 3rd/4th year for experience and to have better accounting knowledge for your exams. you don't want to work as something else that take up all 10 years, building up a salary on that job and is irrelevant to your accounting job right? if in doubt, email acca singapore as i am not sure.

3) i just completed my diploma recently, though haven't got my cert yet, probably in late april- mid may, but i want to apply acca in the coming week, well, i know for non-accounting diploma can only start from the f1 paper onwards, say if i were to apply next week, will they consider me as only o lvl cert and let me take the foundation-level qualifications which is meant for o lvl, or will they be kind enough to let me proceed from the f1 paper onwards, knowing that i graduate from local poly but just havent got my cert yet?
i want to start acca asap, so i dont want to drag long...

check with your sch if they can give you a transcript first or any letter to certify your completion. my guideline for you is: study F1 to F3 now on your own, search online for study text eg opentuition. register for acca online once you get your documents (preferably before 8may), take revision course in may if you really need but they are multiple choices and fairly easy to pass, go for computer based exams with SAA which you can register quite easily by may/jun.

4) last qns is when applying online for acca, that this exam entry procedure which i have to choose when (june or dec), how do i know when to book for my exam when i need an rough estimation to know how long to study for the test? and i tot booking exam is thru the tuition providers eg kaplan/stf/saa?

normal course are jan/feb (after results) to apr, revision in may, normal course (exactly same as earlier unless change in tax laws/syllabus) jul /aug (after results) to oct, revision in nov. usually people go for one term of studies (normal course, with or without revision) if they need tutoring and then take exams. not a must to register for exams immediately after your course though if you are not prepared.

anyone/ seniors can help me with these? i try searching ans from the hwz for acca thread or the acca website, but cant seemed to find the ans i need, any help is appreciated greatly... :(

my responses in bold

Hi ppl

i have intended to self-study f1-f3 paper on my own, cos i have a little accounting during my sec sch.
but i have a few qns though:

1) where can i buy the f1-f3 revision kits, textbk, practice qns?

2) if i were to register the exams, is it thru the acca student acc or thru the tuition provider eg kaplan/saa ?

3) let assume i have some difficulty in the process of studying, can i register just solely on the kaplan/saa/lsbf revision course without registering for the lectures tuition?

1. revision kits = practice qns. you can get materials from various tuition providers or google online (those online are usually global/UK version, slight difference but still ok for F1-F3)

2. only for F1-F3, if you take computer based exams, they are through SAA school (not sure of other places). if paper exams, through acca student's myacca account

The official ACCA Exam Entry form allows ACCA and CAT/FIA students who wish to sit paper-based exams at the immediate exam session to enter for the paper-based exams, and also to indicate if they also intend to sit any exams by CBE. - (from SAA website)

3. yes, you can
