Anyone knows roughly what is the starting pay for ACCA fresh graduate? N what kind of positions should we try out? Some interviews I went, the job scope don't seem to relate to what I have learnt.

ACCA fresh grad pay should be more or less the same as an accountancy graduate from NTU/NUS/SMU. You may want to try auditing/tax jobs. Starting pay in a big 4 is 2.7k - 2.8k

haiz.. dont think abt P1 so much already bah! just pray for the best.. Anyway need advice on P4.. Sami or Esther? I find Kaplan's new full-time timetable dam annoying sia.. got PM1 and PM2..

I would say Esther for P4. Calculation wise maybe Sami is more forcus but Esther start every concept from scratch so you will appreciate and understand better. Understanding the concept helps in writing the theory.

No doubt Sami is good in FRS and consol (suitable for P2) but the P papers are mostly concept and application base, Esther might be a better choice. :s12:

Thanks Tortoise. It seems that most people agree that sami is more calculation focus. I agree with you that P4 has alot of application. Most likely i will go ahead with ester for p4 and tommy for p6! thanks alot!

She doesn't cover as much question as sami, probably about 70% if you compare to sami but she draw simple chart, timeline and that aid in understanding.

You got to practice more relevant past year questions and by going through the suggested solution, you will find her concept slowly sits in and applied to diff question. That should cover most of the calculation portion. Rest would be the theory which can't really predict, but better understanding sure put you in a better position.

morning all, wanna ask is the OBU degree worth taking? Does it aid you in your job hunting?

Also, for my current situation now, I just finished taking exams for F5, F7 and F9 at the Jun '14 sitting, so I'm left with F8 for F papers. Can anyone recommend me what's my next step should be? Take F8 and P2? Cos' I see many people here suggesting taking P1 and P3 simultaneously, so I will take them both in Jan'15? Also if I enroll for F8 and P2, can I still take up the OBU in my next sitting (ie. Jan'15) ? thanks in advance!

Actually F8 and P1 are more closely related than P3. Think maybe F8 and P1 next sem, and P2 and P3 the following? Unless you confident to take F8, P1 and P3 together, but then you will need to take P2 and optional P paper together which is abit tough cos all heavy modules.... :s12:

For OBU, students are auto opt in when u are registering unless u decided to opt out.
U cannot opt in once you completed F7-F9.
maybe u shld go check under ur profile at myAcca to see the status.

For OBU i thought after you pass all Fundamental paper then you submit ur thesis then can get the cert?

thanks, don't think I'll take 3 'P' papers at one go, that's a suicide for me haha. Another question is what if I fail in any of the 3 'F' papers that I took in my June'14 sitting, this means that I have not completed my F papers and I go for the 'P' papers exam. I thought we are supposed to complete all 'F' papers before embarking on 'P' papers route? A bit confused here.

I'm opted in. Opted in means you must take OBU? My impression was even though you are opted in, you can still decide whether to take it at later stage. By the way, where to do the Professional Ethics that is required for OBU?

You still can take the P paper but must take together with your F paper. You cannot left any F paper not register and go ahead with P. :s12:

Those intending to take up P2 may like to consider Suzannah Tan from Kaplan, took her lectures last semester & exam in Dec2013, passed with 1st attempt. Find her consolidation tactics very good, straightforward, clear and easy to understand.:s22:

i was under suzannah for f2 and f7, cleared them with my first attempt too but went for sami p2 instead cause her full time class was 3.5 hours while the part time class was 3 hours. heard she was sami's understudy, their teaching methods are quite similar as a result
