Hi I just finished my Ns and have an idea of going into the accounting line. I have no accounting background and would like to start taking ACCA. Is it worth it? And would I be able to work in accounting if I finished the first three modules and continue studying the rest?

Sorry to burst your bubble. You can't work in accounts with just F1-F3 passed, without accounts background and without any accounts work experience. Min is professional stage if you do not have a degree which I assumed you either have an A level or Diploma.
Unless you are willing to take like $1.6k accounts assistant to start from the lowest.

Sorry to burst your bubble too. The min qualification for one to take acca is A level.

Yes - if you meet the minimum entry requirements which is:

Two A-Levels and three GCSEs (or their equivalent)
These need to be in five separate subjects including English and maths.
To check if your qualifications meet our minimum entry requirements, please read the minimum entry criteria document on the exemptions enquiry database. Click on the link in the related links on the left-hand side of this page to visit the database.

You however can start with the foundation programme or look for other accounting related course like lcci.:o

Share with you some stuff.

It depends on your luck and attitude. I got in accounts line without accounts background and with just F1.

I have a close friend without accounts background got in full set job with just F1-F3 passed and now he is in his final paper.

It's about how much time you willing to invest in ACCA and accounts.

You might want to ask around or seek professional advise before committing to accounting. Visit some poly and browse through the courses available.

Question to you is why Accounting? :s12:

Going on the assumption that you have either a A level cert or a poly dip, you can start your first lessons in jan. As for a job in accounting (assuming basic accounts), it might be better for you to clear your first 3 papers first as they provide the fundamentals. Once you start on ACCA, please be prepared to slog like mad and put in your utmost effort. This qualification is mean and scary for the unprepared especially when option papers are involved.

why would anyone want to do a degree which churns out thousands of graduates yearly who are so similar? is ACCA a way out for a second career? what about employment prospects?

You might wanna pm tortoise79 for this, he was a ntu eee grad then did acca after a few years upon graduation. Speaking about supply, around a thousand affiliates are produced each year.

what can you do with an ACCA degree by a private uni?
won't the employer choose someone who studied for 3 years in a US/UK or Aussie uni over the one who studied locally in a private uni?

You need to understand that ACCA is not a degree but a professional qualification. ACCA themselves do not conduct classes for their papers but they leave to it private institutions to provide tuition services for their papers. As for recognition, it is up to the prospective company's HR to do the filtering. Some may prefer ACCA grads while some might prefer US/UK grads like you have mentioned.
