Just my experience, might not be wholly representative though. I had an Acer 4920G and now using ASUS K43Sv.
My Acer died after 3 years old. My Asus is now 3.5 years old, and still going strong. At around 2.5 years old, the Acer kept overheating and bsod. A small part of the motherboard tray melted due to the cpu heat. Well this is very likely due to wear and tear, but at least my Asus is doing better even though it is older at this stage.
The issue might be just exclusive to my unit (bad luck on my side), but I am not going to bet my money on another Acer laptop due to this. Just my 2 cents
