Entertaining the thought of WC my rig : I7 950 / X58 Sabertooth / HAF X

Appreciate help on the following:

1) XSPC RASA RS 360 or RX 360 for CPU and GPU loop? RX justified?

2) Coloured Tubing - White UV Tubing 8m (1/2" , 3/4")with CCFL UV Tubes - any insights?

3) Existing 3X fans sufficient? Are 'premium' fans like typhoon justified?

4) Full GPU Block for 6950 Ref - recommendations?

5) For GPU Block - do I need extra fittings?

6) Distilled water + PT Nuke good enough?

Thanks!

1. depends on your needs. the rx rads are suited for lower spd fans ~ 1000rpm
but the rs360 is still more then enough unless you plan to put another gfx to cool as well
2. shouldnt be an issue. but mixing tubes like abit....
3. yes. its more then sufficient.
5.you will need 2 more barbs for the tubing.
6. yes.

Yes, idea is to have 1 CPU and 1 GPU loop. So RX?

I mean all the tubing will be white UV with CCFL. Aestatically?=:p

you will need 2 more barbs for the tubing.

The Cost? Place to get?

Thanks, Terrence

RX have 50% more surface area. Less powerful temps are needed to achieve the same temps so rx gets my vote.

Go for GT or Yate Loons. They are worth it.

Extra $70+ worth it i guess, for that extra headway.

Adding 3 more for push/pull would be good. Any idea where I can get these? Price?

Thanks,Myth

oh... yup it shouldnt be an issue.
get it @ edge2o also. he has yates and the barbs required.
if you want gt you might wanna check chamoxa.

Pull fans for ur config will probably just increase the noise level only. 3x good push fans are enough for a cpu + gpu loop...

GT out of stock at chamo. So you will have to get it 2nd hand from VR at $20ea if you need it urgently.

4) Full GPU Block for 6950 Ref - recommendations?

Any insights for the above?

Was thinking of this:

Apprehensive about giving the GPU an open heart surgery though.:o And voiding the warranty is a risk. Any idea how much WC can reduce the temps for a 6950 (approximate)?

I have 2 Noctua NF-P12 fans. Do you think it is a good idea to get one more; to replace the 3 stock fans?

why dont get hwlabs radiator....skip the EK ones though..EK blocks gd but the radiators u carry/touch liao u wont wanna pay for it man lol

ur lookin at abt 30+ idle and 50 full load for the full gpu block

I'm planning to get the radiator that comes with the RASA 750 RS360 kit? Or do you mean another radiator? :s11:

That is promising! You are poisoning me to give the GPU and open-heart surgery! Worth the risk?

I would recommend a performance rad if you are only getting 1 to cool both gpu and cpu. HWlab GTX series are the best performance rad but you need high rpm fans to achieve those results. High rpm usually translates to high noise level though, so depends on whether you can deal with the trade off.

A way to deal with this issue is to go for push pull config on performance rad, though it would cost you more as you need to double your budget for the fans :o

The price of your recommendation - HWlab GTX series? (Radiator, pump, reservour etc)

Actually, RX360 is on par with Hwlab for fans under 2000rpm...

So looking at the price, I'll go for RX360.

Actually from the skinnee lab report, i would say price to performance ratio goes to Swiftech.:s13:

But for TS who is going for performance(i suppose), blackice GTX would be the way to go for single rad setup.

RX360 might be a good choice for sandy bridge + gpu setup but not sufficient for bloomfield + gpu setup imho. I would actually pay the additional $20 to see a substantial difference over a good high end air cooler. This is definitely possible with fans with rpm >2000rpm, where blackice would excel.

Just my thought :o

Yes this is true.

But if your casing / configuration allows you to get say 2x 360rad, then the cheapest 1 will do:s13: Anything more might not warrant you significant improvement for a normal cpu + 1 gpu only loop.

I think i would do the same even with 2 gpus.:s13:

Thanks for the suggestions. I will probably stick to the XSPC rasa kit but i am still undecided if the RX is worth the extra $$. I have mixed comments on this issue.

Example of one such reading ...

The pump is fine. Don't worry about it. It's just as reliable as the 355 and it will work more than fine for a CPU only loop. Even if you wanted to expand to include a single GPU block later you would still have decent flow rates.

Get the RS360 radiator. The difference between the two radiators is very small with fan speeds less than 2000 RPM, and as you are most likely going to be using fans in this range it would be a waste to spend that extra cash on unsed cooling power. This gap is made even smaller due to the extremely low water-air delta you are going to be pulling by having a CPU only loop with a 360 radiator.

Others advised the RX because it is better (how much?) and allows for more option if you want to add a GPU loop.

Inputs anyone?

CPU loop up and running. Temp for i7 950 is pretty decent:

ambient : 25 (aircon)
CPU : 33

Will venture on the GPU loop when the GPU water block is ready.
