holy fk, no wonder theres folks here asking for wifi 6e and full 160mhz

theres no way to fix or make things better for the wireless in your house ?
I'm happy with 5GHz only at home, and I can saturate my fibre plan if i stand close to the APs and I get decent speed of at least 300Mbps in the rest of my house. My internet maxes out at 500Mbps so I can't test above that unless I start doing iperf tests.
But then again I have better things to do than to run around doing iperf tests over wifi, 300+Mbps is good enough for me.

The 5GHz non-DFS channels seem to be quite busy too. :o But all is well on the DFS channels.

As for my neighbour's wifi experience, not my problem. :s13:

I did my part by limiting my AP's transmit power already, what the rest do, I can't control.

Damn son, thats some bad bad building you stay, jeez guess i should complaint less next time when my ping / latency or 4k videos are jittery :s22: 500mbps but tops at 300 ???

My respect man,

My respect man,
I meant I get at least 300Mbps at most spots in my house, the APs are in the living areas so usually I have no problem maxing out the connection. Whatever I can cable is on cable, I don't really like to rely on wifi unless I have to, like for phones and tablets.

New built BTOs basically have drywalls for most of the walls, less the structural beams and columns which are obviously made of reinforced concrete.

One advantage of drywall is, 1 router in the apartment may work out.

old flats not only have thicker walls to attenuate 5GHz interference from neighbours, but in old estates, may have fewer wifi-enabled neighbours (at least in my previous flat in queenstown). the DFS channels were also always unused.

Yup, 1 AP on max power will probably work pretty well if you have it in the centre of the house. I just want very good 5GHz signal throughout the house so I have 2 APs.

cool. i have the bomb shelter in the middle of the flat, so that kinda bisects it into the hall&dining&kitchen, and the rest of the bedrooms. so far router + 1 AP, but the entrance coverage is poor (monitoring for complaints before adding a 2nd AP, but none so far). Study is wired only, so the poorer wifi coverage there is ok. Also, running 5GHz only as the neighbours' signals max out below -75dBm.

power set to 50%, force drop at -55dBm. so far, no problems roaming (except the entrance, but that's not a problem as at that point, one is already going out).

previous flat was old, but surprisingly "porus" walls. 1 router on 3/4 power was enough.

BTO with group chat !? NANI !? condo i can understand but HDB !? wu ya bohhhh

but are all the newer BTO so cui in terms of the building fabs ? got so thin ?

[ im still staying in those thick bricks so yeaaaa.... ]

Yeah. Got 1 guy organised mah. At Canberra.

He eventually got the other neighbours to join in his reno and buying stuff like heaters, door locks etc. I am not sure whether he got earn commission/rebate from this or not.

For my estate, there was even an attempt by reno contractors to create a whatsapp group masquerading as homeowners to entice people to buy their reno plans šŸ˜…šŸ˜…šŸ˜…

Yes, new bto walls are mostly partition based walls so it's very conducive for wifi. 1 nanohd placed strategically can easily cover my 5 room bto with 5bars 5ghz so I am glad that I managed to convinced those in the chat group to try to limit the power of their 2.4ghz transmission. So far its good for me though there are people in my block who keep blasting their tramissions (2.4ghz and 5ghz)but they are very weak when they reaches me as I stay on the top floor🤣🤣🤣

interesting, meaning to say just 1 good router + 1 Unifi 6LR should blanket the 4rms and above if placed correctly...

meaning to say, most of us here , cant even use DFS effectively with 160mhz wide eh

your setup is unifi or asusmesh AP mixed ?
are there alot of 2.4ghz only devices ..? kinda odd that you have to tiptoe around using and implementing 5Ghz and use lower power, if theres a uselss -bomb-shelter

meaning 5Ghz you had tried / max power [ 25? / 20/ 18 ] etc ? but there were alot of neighbour interference ?

i meaning if its me, i would rather chip in and everyone can buy asus or unifi only [ seriously, mesh is good but judging from what y'all have mentioned, it seems like the areas you lot stay in are gonna have major problems with interfering if pushed to 5ghz max pwr

think theres rebate for the the stuff like 2% off due to buy in bulk, but @LoneTraveller if walls arent thick, it means good wifi but bad noise wifu if theres argument eh.

asus with older routers in AP mode, mix of asus, d-link, tp-link. main router running asus-merlin, APs in stock or merlin (mixed bag)

re 2.4GHz devices. none, all can use 5GHz.
i use just enough power, as i prefer smaller areas of coverage with good signal, and quick handover, rather than 1 station broadcasting at fulll strength (network equivalent of occam's razor :ROFLMAO:) . eventually, if the study needs wifi, i'll just plonk another AP there at minimum power. just gotta scribble down another channel on my wall chart.

walls here are kinda thick, so the neighbours signals are lower than -75dBm, often below -80dBm, so that's into the background noise level, not a problem.

Not really true for 5ghz interference. If u install the ap correctly just outside the common toilet, i can't detect my 5ghz (set to high power) and 2.4ghz (set to mid or low power) wifi when I moved just outside the flat though I am not sure of how the signals are if u are staying directly below me.

This is most likely due to the external walls of the flat being made of concrete walls while the majority of the internal walls are partition based.

Anyway, i am safe as I knew the existence of dfs channels which the majority of the neighbors are not using (probably set to auto channels selection )🤣🤣🤣
