going to penang in april. staying at sunway hotel Georgetown. Any place must go or anything must eat nearby there?
Thanks bro Andrew for the detailed write up. Will definitely try most of the recommended food. Anyway just another question, recently a friend of mine whom just came back from penang gave me a pack of coffee called "Coffee tree", is it available for sale anywhere there? Thanks a lot bro.

Hi, I will be travelling to Penang in Mid April. Staying in a guest house You Le Yuan @ Love Lane.
Can advise if that area is accessible to nice streets food or I need to take Taxi from there to other area?
Also I watch a TV program from Taiwan recommending a Food street place called Santou Street where there are lots of Street food. Can advise if it is true?

Hi,
Nearby Love Lane there are few places to explore some nice street food but you need to walk. Anyway, that area does not have as many delicious food as that you can find at Macalister Road which I mentioned in my post earlier. There,it is definitely a food heaven!
When you are at Love Lane, you can walk down to Chulia St for dinner at night where there are lots of stalls selling food. It is to your left if you were to walk towards Chulia St from Love Lane. The food recommended there is definately the Wantan Noodles and Satay. If you like Lok-Lok,you can try too. Just 5 mins walk from Love Lane.
Another option is to walk to Red garden Food Paradise, a food court style food garden, which might not be the street food that you are looking for. It is located at Lebuh Leith or Leith St. There you can enjoy your food with some performance by local and Filipino bands and singers. There are many choices of food but the price is slightly more expensive than those stalls located at Chulia St. Oh ya, to walk there you need to take about 10-15 mins.
In the afternoon, there is a stall selling Chicken rice which is very famous among the local Penangites. It is located at Chulia St and the stall only sells the chicken rice from around 10am-2 pm! In the morning if you would like to have your breakfast, you can also explore the Morning market which is located at Lebuh Carnavon just 5 mins walk from Love Lane. From there, turn left and cross the road to Chulia St.There is a lane there which is Lebuh Carnavon.
Santou Street or the locals most famously called it Swatow Lane is a street where you can find the famous New World Park. There are many stalls inside to explore in New World Park Food Centre. You can try the 'Loh Mee' (My favourite), 'Bak Chang', 'Or Kueh','Fried Rice', 'Fried Kuey Teow' and also the not-to-be-missed fruits and dessert stall! You can see even the bees love their fruits! Over there, if you want to explore the local food, it is suitable only to go there in during lunch as the local food section is close for dinner. From your guesthouse in Love Lane to New World Park takes about 20-25 mins drive. You got to take a cab there as it doesn't make sense to walk from your place to Swatow Lane.
At night, it is the turn for the other side of the New World Park Food Centre which is the one facing Burma Road to be happening. But if your preference is to explore local street food, then I shall not explain more.

Thanks for the detail explanation.
I also watch there is a place where 2 old twin grandma (I think) sell Laksa in some Wu Lu street wan. A lot locals go there eat. Think their laska cooking style a bit like thai style.
Do you know where is it?
Hi, you are welcome. The two old twin grandma that u mentioned i guess they are the ones I knew. They are so famous in Penang but I don't think they sell Laksa. They are actually selling Curry Mee. In Penang, that kind of Thai style laksa that u mentioned is actually called Curry Mee.
Here is the link. They should be the old twin grandmas that u mentioned right?

Yes, that is the Twins ah Ma curry noodle I am referring to. Thanks.
The location seems a bit Wulu. Need to drive very far?
I was having a simple lunch at Air Itam wet market due to heavy rain. We were sitting with some locals who are staying at Air Itam, interestingly they told us about these 2 grandmas and they dun understand why their curry mee so many people queuing to eat. but then again, they also said the famous air itam assam laksa is so so to them, they prefer their own vendor across the road right where we are siting.
I think penang hawkers too many hidden dragons and tigers, it is all up to personal taste, but I find the parting comments of the locals very adept, "you research and travel all the way here, even if people tell you not nice, you will still try 1 bowl just to justify making your way over."
