How much does it cost to go from airport to Georgetown? Penang taxi go by meter?

Which location is ideal for sight seeing?

How's the food prices in Penang?

Any security issue there?

There is a bus just outside the airport if you don't want to deal with taxis.

Sightseeing is quite standard for tourists, googling will give the usual recommendations. If big group traveling, can consider engaging a local driver with van. I usually base myself in georgetown for convenience.

Coffeeshop/hawker prices are cheap, but portions not very big.

Visited nearly a dozen times, no issues on safety, of course common sense is still required when traveling.

thinking of going solo in end march, first time going to penang
any itinerary to share? im mainly for sightseeing and chill, food are okay not really the kind to check out all the famous stalls
only concern is how to travel around? (i read some said take taxi some said no need, some said take bus some said no need so im very confused)
hotel most likely as i read i will stay in georgetown
thanks

The bus system (Penang rapid) can cover the georgetown area quite comprehensively, there is also a free shuttle bus for certain areas of the georgetown.

For the airport, buy the taxi ticket at the airport taxi counter (which is just outside the airport to your right), the trip from airport to Georgetown will cost RM 54.70 or RM 57.40 (I forgot).

Most of the taxis generally go by meter nowadays. Just download the MyTeksi - Malaysia's version of GrabTaxi app on your mobile (the taxi driver will collect payment as shown on the app).

No security issues (just don't wear too bling)..

RM100 per day in Penang can do much?

Are money changers easy to find in Penang? The shopping malls worth visiting?

Hi everyone. I'll be heading to Penang from 9th Feb to 12th Feb with my wife and will be staying at Batu Ferringhi. First time there, is it advisable to rent a car? How will the traffic be like, especially given its the CNY period? If not, getting to Georgetown I can use the bus which will take how long?

I don't think we will be doing much sightseeing, mostly will be at the beach and resort we are staying in, and maybe go down to Georgetown one day. Given that, would it make sense to rent a car for our trip, or we can use the Cat bus?

Using MyTeksi from Penang International Airport to George Town will cost roughly how much?

My opinion is for you not to rent the car, since you are already clear that you intend to stay in the resort and only visit Georgetown for a day trip. Not many shops will be open. Not sure about the traffic. It is quite a long bus ride of up to an hour to town. Perhaps your resort has a transport arrangement you can take advantage of.

Anybody tried Uber in Penang?

Tried Grab Teski before and the price is much cheaper than those who dont charge by meter. Even those executive Teski are cheaper too. Take note that there will be a extra RM2 for booking.

First day in Penang. Uber is extremely cheap and the drivers so far have been so friendly.

Up to you, really. I will get off at Butterworth just so that I can take the ferry that goes directly to Georgetown. Sungei Nibong is on Penang island but you will need to get on another bus to get to Georgetown, and the road traffic situation becomes a factor.
