I am not sure where are the discrepancies coming from but where I live it is actually lower:

I can also get the Daikin MCK75P URURU with humidifying option here for around S$600 or Daikin MC70L without humidifying for S$650 and then buying humidifier separately. But it seems Daikin MC70L is quite outdated compared to Sharp and Hitachi.

AQI sources from the official sources from UAE, just that it's raw concentration convert to AQI 1hr. No health advisory is available for shorter term 1 to 3 hrs, but I can point you to the below in which the 8-hr figure is endorsed by US EPA

Well, I don't know. Up to you, I found out that the MC70x has a CADR of 341 m3/hr. Same ballpark as the Samsung AX40.

If you can buy those wick based humidifiers/air coolers, it's probably the same. 1 more extra machine taking up space though!

I wouldn't recommend the customised filters already, at ~ sgd40 a piece.

Just DIY cut the 40x30x2.5 or 30x30x2.5 filters.
This one has about 10 more folds than the customised ones, so that's how I could get the end result of about 230-240 m3/hr (based on anemometer wind speed vs originals). Use this for daily use, you can change every 2-3 months, no issue.

Yeah....not sure what is happening at Zabeel PArk. Past 5 days were all purple or brown. The WTC, Zabeel Palace and Burj Khalifa are all there.

Emirates Hills is much better.

It's really a big difference. Despite the fact that it's only about 20km from your place to Zabeel.

Downtown Zabeel, high-class luxurious living where you'll have everything that life can possibly offer. Including cancer, heart attack and stroke.

Dubai and SG (240V) are using the MC70, MC55 etc. Eg the ones you see on gumtree/carousell.com.sg


The Japs, as usual, reserve the best for the JDM or Japanese Domestic Market. So that one is 99% 1 pass.

Yes, have to cut along the pleats (ie in the same direction of the pleats) and get it down to 280mm). Then the filter is 300mm while one side of the AX40 filter cavity is 310mm. That 10mm you plug up with some rolled up plastic packaging/bubble pack that comes with the china HEPA.

More than sufficient from now till next year Aug or so. Heck, even for 2014 levels it's more than sufficient if you are not ngeow, that few tens of m3/hr difference has no real bearing in real world, even for some very very sensitive folks in the 2015 El Nino and Haze thread in EDMW.....much more sensitive than me and you probably....coz they already start warning about their symptoms starting from about 40-50ug/m3 onwards after only about 2-3hrs (forget about 24-hr PSI and its health advisories)

Unless you are talking about a premature infant, then yep....maybe I'd not recommend the China HEPAs.


This is the difference between 430 m3/hr CADR vs 323 m3/hr CADR, ard the same % difference as 240m3/hr vs 323 m3/hr.

The PM distribution range is very narrow.

So with the above evidence as support, seriously not having 99.9% sealing is not a problem if you are not a picky pax.

Majority of the air still goes through the HEPA, a wee bit of bypass happens (do use some bubble wrap + tissue paper to seal as it's just a 5-10 min job), the CADR seriously is not that affected as it's just a mix of "polluted" air + HEPA filtered air at the outlet, the CADR probably stays nearly the same within a few percent range.

You will know what I mean if you have a anemometer and laser particle counter and managed to play with it esp during the 2015 indon haze season.

Even with same brand...I think I need at least 2 sets of 1 model and 3 sets of another model to cover my house adequately. (Different size of areas needed to be covered)

Btw, I am considering if I should go for the multi brand/model approach. So if one brand or model stop production or the filter of a model is no longer available, I dun need to change all the affected APs at the same time. Very chor.

I was thinking it's easier to get HEPA filters for the AX40 because the filter is in a more "conventional" shape and form, unlike the tubular form of the xiaomi and mfresh APs.

Right now I've got 1 Philips AC4372 from the recent Philips carnival sales to cover my living room and dining area. Other than the price of both the unit and the filters during the carnival attracted me, the other plus points were since it is locally available so I think there should be local support and it does not have the ionizer function thus I hopefully think it does not produce ozone.

I will have a look at qoo10. Voltage is not an issue, it's the same, even the plugs are 3-pin same like SG. The only problem can be not having a local warranty.

Taobao - I am not sure where do they ship to. I have a great service here provided by Aramex, called ShopAndShip, so I have like 12 addresses around the world where I can order something and they will ship to me (something like comGateway, VPost etc). I have address in Shanghai, Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia. But here we have to add shipping fees which are around S$25 per kg, so this can make it pretty expensive.

Yeah I get what you are trying to say already.

Their JDM models (like TKP70) are using the new filters which are like the typical HEPA filters that we see with the sidewalls, denser pleating and all. But the worldwide models are still left with the old ones.

And I have some suspicion to believe that they tried to dump the units here in Singapore right before the Indonesian haze season but failed miserably due to insufficient and lousy marketing. Big chance for them.

Actually it was a golden opportunity for them, the biomass haze here started to get bad from Sep 10th and stocks were going low from then on. 99.5% of the Air purifier retail stocks were gone from 1 OCt all the way to early Nov for 1.2 months.

Too bad they didn't react fast enough by shipping the units to Singapore fast, or reach out to consumers with a good deal like "discounted price of $300 for the MC70". I am sure they could have cleared several thousand units if they managed to ship here fast and advertise/sell in their local Daikin office, even if the local big consumer stores refuse to carry their brand.


I mean, heck....2 Korean sellers on qoo10.sg managed to sell some 2,000 units of Samsung AX40 in 2 months (plus extra replacement filters) and probably made a nice $$ killing.
