The ax40 cheap rmb29 hepa can attach activated Carbon or not.
If the flow rate so little with it. Will it still be effective in a living room for daily use?

Ax40 original filter
Ax40 compatible cheap filter
Xm2 original filter

Which one has weird smell

Better don't put any additional AC filter in addition to the RMB29 百姓HEPA.
This option is really for daily rough use during the non-hazy months, it can handle them and even for the past few days conditions. No issue at all.

At ~ low 200+ m3/hr, it is sufficient for up to a new BTO MBR even.
Don't expect it to be effective for a living room, I don't see why would you want to use it during non-hazy months also. Nightly usage for that 10-12 hrs in the bedroom watching TV + sleeping is more than enough to bring you annual PM2.5 exposure down by quite a fair bit anyway.

This RMB29 and all other TB non-original filters have a very slight new filter kind of smell, it's not very offensive and will go away after about 5 days.

The "TCM" smell that many have posted can be found in all filters. I noticed it in original Sharp, original LG, original Samsung, original M8088A to a certain degree. And of course the RMB29 type HEPAs. Once you change the filter, it will be gone. Some people posted that it could be the AC layer, but I don't think so because it's present in the pure RMB29 HEPA and also LG filter in which I have not put the AC.

It's probably the smell of the haze particuates or something that's collected on the HEPA and after a prolonged time the smell changes or something. Maybe mixed with some mold or what. I Am not sure.

Some geek talk :

BTW, I think some of you might have seen the slight argument over at the $279 Xiaomi Air Purifier thread regarding someone asking for folks to go for Blueair as it's certified by so and so and also US Embassies/Consulates are using Blueair (?? not sure if this is true, never google, i'll take it as it is true) simply because they can filter Anthrax.

I really don't wanna continue that kinda conversation and discussion over there already.
But I think you folks here know better. These risks are nearly non-existent in Singapore.

Just the facts here :

Facts
1. HEPA was and is still is recommended for radioactive fallout and biological biohazard stuff like anthrax. HEPA was actually developed due to this radioactive and biological risks way back then in the 40s or 50s.
The internet is full of this info, HEPA tests for radioactive ask is all over the youtube. I cannot lie with regards to this.

Anyway some links : This is what CDC has to say regarding Anthrax
HEPA/Vaccine Plan for Indoor Anthrax Remediation
http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/11/1/04-0635_article

To advance the analysis of these recovery options, we propose and evaluate a very simple HEPA/vaccine plan, where HEPA air cleaners continuously clean the indoor air and Hazmat workers use HEPA vacuums to clean the floors, walls, ceilings, and room contents on a twice-a-day basis; HEPA filters are 99.97% effective for 0.3-μm particles (3), which are 5–10 times smaller than a typical anthrax spore.

^^^^^

So ultimately in the end, what matters is still CADR airflow.

And yes, technically, the Xiaomi AP with the H11 nearly H12 filter would still be able to handle stuff like Anthrax, piece of cake.

Srsly it's not that it's useless. Just that you'd need more horsepower more then.

From 1997 to now, these are the periods which we kena moderate or heavy haze.

1997 - Super El nino year. Don't have to say more. Slightly lower levels than our 2015, but it has slight haze of about 2-3 more weeks than 2015.

2006 - about 2 weeks of moderate haze in total I think. Maybe 2 more weeks of slight haze.
2009 or was it 2010, 1 week of haze and 1 day of moderate haze PM10 = PSI 129 or PM2.5 PSI would maybe be PSI 170?

2013 - our 1 week of dense haze
2014 - prolonged slight haze from July to mid Nov. PM2.5 PSI 153.
2015 - !@$!% dense haze

So far that's about it. It's more of daily use. So use it in good health and with your stock you don't really have to worry about filter replacements for a good few years.

Poiema is a good air purfier :) http://poiema.com.sg/

Previously discussed in the Part 1 of this thread.

Summary seems to be:
- Overpriced for the CADR
- Main advantage no noise due to lack of fan
- Air ionizer technology
- No certification, and distributor seems ashamed of it, lol.

So far they have not provided any certification for the device and they have deleted Facebook posts that requested for it.

Actually it is not so bad.

My Poiema P500 has 3 speed airflow, the salesman told me it uses the patented technology to generate airflow. :s12:

From the last Haze till today I never turn off the machine and just wash the filters few times. So far so good. It is really quieter than my preloved one.

But I remember they got show me some product information at roadshow.

Anyway, there get many air purifiers in the market now.

Just buy the one you like most can alr.

Actually electrostatics got its use lah, esp if you dont mind cleaning the plates every week. So you dont have to worry about filter $$. (Somewhat negated by cheap TB HEPAs) Just have to be cheap, we are very price sensitive that's all..

On TB there are some pretty powerful electrostatics with CADRs in the 400 m3/h range but they are not cheap. This matters coz some of us are not merely getting 1 or 2.
Eg 1.for me my aim during moderate haze is bare min of 2000m3/hr
2. For others, they cant or dont want to spend so much, and due to the poor economy and bleak future outlook that's understandable. I mentioned before, in 2015 there was a single mother with 4 children. You think she has the money to get a few Blueair 403 at $938 w/6mths replacements for the $130 electrostatic hybrid HEPA or IQAir 250 at 2.2k?

Not cheap is probably coz they are huge in size so as to get 400 m3/hr CADR. You cant get round this coz the airflow over the collector plates cannot be flowing too fast else the PM wont collect on the plate.

Ps. I assume the CADR is believable, to a certain extent and not totally out of whack.

You mentioned more horsepower. Mean turning to faster speed can still make it usable? Or 200 is still the max
