I was regretting last time didn't utilize my $50 coupon to buy from him
:s13: :s13:

Seriously after coupon around 250+ ?
Think now don't have such price and $50 coupon already, with or without the extra filter.
Now I see cheapest 280+ and cannot use coupon...
:s22: :s22:

Still have actually. :o You have to lookout for the qoo10 event coupons, as well as the non-sale price listings. Can be done.

Just shared this two weeks ago on 10th Mar:

Just to share, now qoo10 has a $50 off $300 coupon event, if go for the Group Buy listing by GoniGlobal @$309, can use the coupon for final cart of $259. If you have at least 1k qpoints, can minus another $10 for $249.

So the Made in Korea compatible ones are only less than 5% inefficient?

Yep.....Korea does manufacture HEPA filters themselves. Seriously i have only seen H13 "True HEPA" from them.

Eg this is a locally sold product, i am not sure if the machine is made in china or korea, but i can confirm for you that the filter is Made in Korea as printed and more importantly measures zero @ 0.3 in particle count mode at the Air Purifier's output on a typical hazy day which is the same as any other brands' "True HEPA".
ie below the sensitivity/above the noise floor of our cheap particle counter, while the Taobao filters with PP measures a few hundreds ie detectable.

been looking out for the past 2 weeks, now got 30 dollar off 160 and 100 dollar off 500 coupon

so far seen nothing from the listing that can bring down the price to 250+ with or without coupon...

The AX40 is operating on a switch-mode psu, which powers the 380Vdc NIDEC brand motor, which is excellent. The SMPS would be the one heating up, if any.... I found none, plus extended operation esp during 2015with several days literally 24hrs each day and typical 12-18hrs daily since the beginning of 2014 (2yrs operation) no issue at all.

Thanks for the clarification, already put in a order for it

useful info for future potential AX40 buyers.

is the link with all the AP info still available?

Your own preference. I personally don't mind auto, but my wife finds the fan stepping from high > low a bit distracting, so we end up using high fan speed whole night.

After you clean/replace the filter as required, you can hold the button for 3 sec to reset it the alarm so that it doesn't stay on or keep blinking.

No, the extra AX40 filter is a compatible made in korea version. It is not those Taobao versions made with PP material which has a slightly lower efficiency at about 95% (just put it that way, some are much higher at 99%, it depends and i cannot confirm what kind of stuff do you have), and also flows lower in airflow (due to higher restriction) when comparing at the same filter thickness.

If one is bothered by all these, just spend the extra $$ and get the original Samsung?

Edit - Just to be sure, i think we all know that the price difference that we are talking about is like what...10 times or 1000%? This matters a lot for long term users, in which many are in this thread.

sometimes buyers crunch on too much numbers and over worry over nothing

like this no brainer to just get the xiaomi air purifier sia.. imo it seems better and cheaper than ax40..
depends on how u use it and how long u use it.

a few pages back, someone plotted out the cost of the 2 machine and the replacement filter over 2yrs i think?
AX40 is still slightly cheaper in his table, but ofcos it depends on his purchase price and his circumstance of usage.
And not to forget to mention AX40 is still quieter than XM at the similar output efficiency.

I draft 5 years comparison comparing AX40 vs xiaomi2.

If use the Korea compatible filter plus the RMB 29 filter, AX40 is cheaper.

If use Korea compatible filter only, AX40 is more exp by $184.
If use Samsung original filter only, AX40 is more exp by $344.
I'm talking about total amount after 5 years.

But take note the AX40 seems RMB29 compatible filter needs some modification by the user, has no carbon to filter VOC, weaker and not strong enough for big or living rooms.

If budget, i think XM2 cheaper and the filters are more easily available in SG.

That is why my recommendation since 6 months has been XM2 and AX40, no matter how you slice or dice it.

There might be offers from time to time, like sgd50 shipped for Samsung original filters, which would slightly tilt things.

Yeah man. Announce big big when the offer is in then I hoot one dozen.
Maybe I should email Samsung directly to get wholesaler price to one shot get few hundreds for the bro here.

There are other advantages for AX40 I guess. Like more quiet, Korean made and hopefully last longer. Probably lesser chance of product scandals on material used or its effectiveness.

I also wonder should I really keep to replacing every 6 months or not or extend a little longer.

That depends on you. Sometimes there might be a smell, aometimes nope.

Another line of thinking is that stuff like mold growth in the filter might slowly increase the compromise of the HEPA structure. It may not happen, but it's just a recommendation. Not just a case of filter blocked or not.

I usually change every 6 months. Either will have smell or filter just looks black. Or airflow seem to reduce significantly.

Bought Philips AC4014 at $379 gain city sale (cheaper than qoo10 prices).

Have 2 x AX40 and other airpurifiers but AX40 no medium speed, only low speed which hardly moves air and high speed which is a bit too noisy for sleeping but ok for other usage.

I run 2 air purifiers per room. One use the cheap and good Sharp FU-Y30E with DIY cut it yourself 3M Filtrete 1900 from amazon to absorb the bigger dust, the other AX40 and maybe now AC4014, will use original filter.

This one has been in operation from beginning of Nov after the heavy haze season has settled (then the filter was too damn smelly after the air cleared on Nov 1st/2nd).

So basically 5 months of clean Singapore air. Daily usage approx. 12 hrs.

Location, South of Singapore Tg Pagar, high floor.

It's a 311mm x 281mm x 45mm thick Taobao HEPA. You can see the pieces of plastic packaging that I cut + use 3M scotch tape to tape at the sides to reduce bypass. 1 minute job.

Really self-explanatory.

Note, there is a rough pre-filter before this already. In comparison, Blueair air purifiers have NO pre-filters. :s13:
