saw some guys buying honeywell air purifier from amazon but was wondering if they have it in 240V input voltage? Almost all are 110V versions.

Which model? It doesn't make sense to get HW Air purifiers from Amazon now with the options on qoo10, since there is no free AMZ shipping. In 2013, perhaps.

All need transformers.

Samsung AX40. Can search this thread for it w regards to replacement filters on qoo10 and much cheaper replacements from taobao (1/4 the price).

I think that's 2013 bah... I was one, out of desperation. Honeywell runs off AC motor so it's region specific. 240V can only get from countries with 240V mains.

Go with WussRedXLi recommendation. Many of us using Qoo10 AX40.

Use this one better. Got filter for High Confidence fires. The low confidence fires don't give off much smoke. You get Intensity as well as Confidence level.

When the Intensity gets above 380 or so.....that's a really big hotspot. eg last year 2014 hotspots near Palemang, in Illr Ogan Komering regency.

http://fires.globalforestwatch.org/#v=map&x=105.71&y=-1.02&l=7&lyrs=Active_Fires

Under Imagery, uncheck the 2 checkboxes.

Go to Fires, filter by last 24hrs.

Drought Code (moisture level of metres of underground peat) is still not that dry yet. Severe haze won't happen. Will become dry in weeks to come.

FFMC / Fine Fuel Moisture Code can give you an idea whether any rain happened in the past 24hrs. It's the moisture level for the top soil.

We have been getting quite beautiful clear blue skies for the past 2 weeks. Very dry, little moisture.

Might as well post this one.

This is why I said 2013 PSI 401 was really a freak incident, there was no El Nino and yet it burned with a very high intensity and very close to us (less distance = higher smoke intensity) and we had W and SW winds due to 2 tropical storms affecting the usual SE and SSE winds.

Vs 1997 Super El nino. (PSI 226 as peak)

It also has values for last year's "failed El Nino". Last year we kena a peak of PSI 153.

What happened in 2010 is that there was an El Nino (we had PSI 129 as peak), but it was an El Nino Modoki (and not a full-blown Classic El Nino), ie central pacific ocean warmed but not closer to S America/Peru, ie Nino 1+2 did not warm. So it was like the El Nino/kelvin waves somehow got stuck and the 3 and 3.4 regions got warmed. A classic El Nino is more powerful and has more effect wrt rainfalls, ie 1+2 region need to warm lot. Check out 1997, super warm for the 1+2

What we want is the 3.4, 3 and 1+2 regions to heat up. Nino 4 (closest to us here in SEA) can remain cool. What this means in layman terms is that there is a gradient difference and it moves all the moisture and storms towards Peru/USA.

Hi. I read this thread for 3 weeks. Thanks for all the tips here. I have been having allergic rhinitis for decades. I just want to ask the experts if both are same price, which is better, ax40 or psr439? Thanks.

hehe....reading for 3 weeks. Hope we didn't bore you.

Samsung AX40 vs LG PS-R459, I have both. For allergic rhinitis...you'd probably need the airflow power. Hence Samsung AX40 would be a better bet. Esp with both original filter and taobao filter (1/4th the price) options. For normal usage, the LG with more fan speed settings might be a better bet.

Hving an air purifier is just part of the pic. You'd need to control the dust/dust mite population on your pillow and bed. Seriously, if you have an aircon, just blow it at the bed hence when you toss and turn, the dust mite droppings that are stirred up would be blown "away" and you won't inhale them in. The HEPA would take care of the droppings while in the air. That'd be a excellent first step in controlling the dust mite droppings.

Hehe i enjoyed reading this thread when in the mrt. I actually already bought 1 set of ax40 after going thru 200+ plus pages. But got a bit disappointed when u gave a better review of psr439 (bigger hepa filter). Hehe. I'm thinking of buying 2 more for the other rooms and also to prepare for haze. Btw, the ax40 brand new has a bit of smell which will go away right? Thanks.

Most air purifier new HEPAs would have a bit of a smell. Will go away in 2-3 days, very fast....no worries.

Yes the LG has a bigger sized HEPA (when both are using 45mm thick Taobao filter). So in a way, theorectically, the LG holds a bit of an edge. But the LG is quite a bit louder at highest speed, which is also because it'd have a higher airflow m3/hr with my anemometer measurements. But this is when you are using the Taobao HEPAs.
If one has enough budget to get the original Samsung filters ($88 per year, or if you one shot buy 4pcs per shipment then it becomes $78), then that'd be a moot point.

If you are considering to get 1 or 2 more, then probably you might need to get the same units......coz you get economies of scale when you buy the same model from Taobao....and easier when changing filters coz all use the same filter, all use the same pool. Just stock up 8 pcs when buying and be done with it.

So do consider that.

Cheapest is the first one. If you have budget, get 1 extra original filter, still below S$400, no GST.

http://list.qoo10.sg/s/SAMSUNG-AX40?keyword=Samsung+AX40&keyword_auto_change=

PS. I have been reading the qoo reviews, there are 2 major sellers of the AX40 on qoo10. Looks like quite a good number of allergic rhinitis suffers got their conditions alleviated with the AX40. Quite surprised, coz though an AP does help, it's not a sure thing unless you can get the dust mite droppings away from the bed when stirred by your body.

This! is very important... :s13: Granted if money is not an issue, I'd change all my APs to AX40... now I have to keep the measurements for five different model of APs...
