Brought forward 1 month. If really got any dachi from Indon haze, public sure panic coz last year's figures would be a lot lower than this year's.

PSI (With effect from 1 April 2014)

With effect from 1 April 2014, Singapore will move to an integrated air quality reporting index, where PM2.5 will be incorporated into the current Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) as its sixth pollutant parameter. The PSI will therefore reflect a total of six pollutants – sulphur dioxide (SO2), particulate matter (PM10) and fine particulate matter (PM2.5), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), carbon monoxide (CO) and ozone (O3).

The 3-hour PSI will take into account PM2.5 concentrations. In addition, NEA will also publish the 1-hour PM2.5 concentrations every hour.

Why not try hooting Sharp air purifier @tao bao ? They do delivery from JP to SG. Japan series and price are at least 30/40% cheaper as compared to local.. The only disadvantages are no local warranty and requires voltage transformer.

Really no point leh....also need to add GST. Also need to add a bit of electrical tariff $$ for the transformer efficiency loss.

If operate 1-2 hrs daily then I guess ok (but what's the point). The bills would be noticeable if it's switched on 8-12hrs daily and for a few years.
Then it'd be nearly the same.

Just eat 1 less restaurant/buffet meal for 2 would cover liao.

I bought a small usb fan together with a usb plug to cool the transformer when I on the air purifier. It works and transformer did not get too hot.

Where to get 3M aircon filters?

Thanks

Self-fix Centrepoint. Other DIY shops like Homefix, pls call. I think NTUC Xtra also may carry.

Amazon is sold out even at the current price of usd7.40. I got mine at usd4.95 last year (local selling S$17.90, same size 1pc of 38x60cm). I got total of 13 boxes, well 8 of them are free coz the shampoo that I got leaked a wee bit and the boxes were slightly wet but heng filter not wet. :D

BTW, the 3M Filtrete gets easily maxxed out in dust holding capacity. The recent 1 week of Kota Tinggi/Mersing haze -> SG.....I was operating my air con nightly for about 4-6 hours. Now the filter I think gotta change liao, pretty greyish.

You have to change, coz as it holds more dust, the electrostatic attraction drops. I experienced the same with my 3M Filtrete MPR2200 Elite Allergen furnance filter that I DIYed for my Sharp purifier last year.

Is Novita a decent brand?
Local brand?

Thanks

The models and some designs seem ok, good prices. But still not really tested in terms of motor longevity. Doesn't matter if the brand is satki and use stars as advertisements, if the purifier spoils after 3-4 years of daily use.

I checked out the NAP501, it's really really super silent even at max speed. But that's at Robinson's. I opened the cover up and the pre-filter is there, but I did not check if the HEPA is in there or not. Coz I know for sure that my Sharp that without the HEPA installed, the airflow and unit is really silent, much more silent than with the HEPA installed.

Well, i actually purchased a mid end Japan Sharp Series online. Save all those reseller fees by handling the purchased and parcel forwarding to SG via SEA.... Total damaged control @less than $400 to avoid tax.

I can't get a similar specification with the price i paid for if hoot @SG.

Not sure how much a grey set A50 would cost locally though, maybe S$450? If you are saying that you are able to get the Sharp A50 or similar at say S$$200-250 shipping inclusive from overseas, then yeah that's another story.....but I think that's highly unlikely. Coz you add the transformer + electrical losses over time, that's another $100 total.

In fact for the power hungry 110V units, it's going to cost even more for the conversion, over a few years duration.

I am trying to get hold of a Sharp A40 for my parents' place as they are taking care of my youngest kid during weekdays. But just no stock now, actually if don't want warranty at your neighbourhood shops, the lowest I could get is at $345 through my father in law's contact (which my bro in law did get 2 units @ $360 last year) for grey units. Last time sales I think i saw $389 at BEST Denki but of coz that's last year.

So IMO, with a $50-60 transformer with PSB certification sticker + transformer losses and what nots if you operate it for many hrs (about $50 for 6 years), really no point. Just pay a bit more.

If I can't secure the A40, then prob going for the Novita NAP501 which is like the A40..... $299 + free H13 filter.

Seems like today starting to get hazy again... :(

NB. The PSB certification sticker really means a lot to me. The fire risk is really no joke - my downstairs neighbour lost some 50k on reno just before CNY this year. Just last year in the other air purifier thread during PSI 401 period, we were joking/debating that transformers are super matured and 99.999999% safe something like that, confirm no problem one.
Just check the Amazon 1-2 star reviews on the transformers.

Of coz, ultimately, this is own risk and own decision. Happy can liao.

I never understand why people would go thru the trouble of getting transformer and using on their imported electrical appliances. Too much hassle and too much uncertainty for me. I rather pay a little more to get in our local friendly shops.

Got my sharp A80 from goh ah bee earlier this year. Cheap and good.

Past few weeks when the PSI was creeping up, i can really smell the difference in my indoor purified air and outside natural air.
