611 is overkill for MBR leh.

But I am quite skeptical of its specs....looks somewhat inflated. 55W for 600m^3/hr airflow via a small 12" by 9.75" by 1" (ard there) HEPA filter. Too optimistic.

Thks for your reply. So nap501 should be good enough?

Novita produce ions though. Do you know if these ions will affect our health?

Using Novita, OSIM and Philips at home

Main reason becoz have kid at home

For few weeks already, need to turn on air conditioning in living room in the evening becoz too warm and humid, if not kid become very rowdy

Note that work place do not provide air filter or purifier

Thus, no matter how good quality air available at home, once step out, breathe in haze

Work place HVAC systems use MERV rated filters of around 8 to 10, take it as a commercial rating for filters. They do filter ok, HEPA is around MERV 16-18 level.
I have seen the filters, they are ok. And also HVAC systems in workplace have good overall airflow + operate 8am to 6pm office hrs, they are pretty ok in practice. In practice i said? That's coz last year PSI 300-400 region, i clearly remember there were no issues and irritation while breathing in my office air for nearly 100 hours while just 30 mins at night in my house PC room (no purifier) i already buay tahan and needed to take cover in the MBR which has the KC-840.

Data Centres chilling AHUs as well, some may have seen them and the filters if you peek from above.

But anyway, one dept in another floor got spare budget this year, they bought 8 x Alen air purifiers.

Minimum efficiency reporting value - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The scale "represents a quantum leap in the precision and accuracy of air-cleaner ratings"[1] and allows for improved health, reduced cost and energy efficiency in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) design. For example, a HEPA filter is often impractical in central HVAC systems due to the large pressure drop the dense filter material causes. Experiments indicate that less obstructive, medium-efficiency filters of MERV 7 to 13 are almost as effective as true HEPA filters at removing allergens, with much lower associated system and operating costs.[2]

While the smallest MERV value in each row has no minimum requirement for filtering that row's particle size, it does have stricter requirements for all larger particle sizes than any smaller MERV value. For example, MERV 13 the "0.3–1.0 μm" row has no minimum requirement for removing 0.3–1.0 μm particles (the standard specifies "<75%") but has higher minimum removal percentages of 1.0–3.0 μm, 3.0–10.0 μm, and > 10 μm particles than MERV 12 and all smaller MERV values. All other MERV values on each row do have minimum removal percentages for that row's particle size.[2]

Australian Bureau of Meteorology forecast of El Nino.

ENSO Wrap-Up

Tropical Pacific continues to warm; El Niño likely in 2014

Issued on Tuesday 6 May 2014 | Product Code IDCKGEWWOO

The tropical Pacific Ocean has warmed steadily in recent months, with large warm anomalies in the ocean sub-surface (5-day values up to +6 °C) and increasingly warm sea surface temperatures. Climate models surveyed by the Bureau suggest El Niño development is possible as early as July. These factors indicate that while El Niño in 2014 cannot be guaranteed, the likelihood of an event developing remains at least 70% and we are at El Niño ALERT level.

For El Niño to be established and maintained, coupling needs to occur between the tropical Pacific atmosphere and ocean, evident by further and persistent weakening of the trade winds and a consistent increase in cloudiness near the Date Line. These atmospheric characteristics of El Niño are forecast to become evident over the coming months.

El Niño impacts climate across much of the world, including below average rainfall in the western Pacific and Indonesian regions, and increased rainfall in the central and eastern Pacific. For Australia, El Niño is usually associated with below average rainfall over southern and eastern inland Australia, with about two thirds of El Niño events since 1900 resulting in major drought over large parts of the continent.

The Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) is currently in a neutral state. Model outlooks suggest the IOD is likely to remain neutral through late autumn and early winter, with two of the five models surveyed suggesting a positive IOD may develop by early spring. Positive IOD events often coincide with El Niño and are typically associated with large parts of southern and central Australia experiencing lower rainfall than usual.

Next update expected on 20 May 2014 | print version

thats one huge air filter!

That one is the chiller (cold water) lah. Like your Aircon FCU, just that they slot in those huge cassette type filters.

They are not HEPA efficiency in performance of coz and definitely do not even approach a properly sized air purifier running on HIGH speed in a residential setting, but by running continuously + having high airflow relative to an airpurifier operating in a room, it's decent enough. From this link, MERV 11 already can handle smoke.

Just got a Sharp A50 from GAB this afternoon for $490. And Navita NAP611 price is $500 & NAP501 for $265.
If you need timer setting then A50 is no such function.

for sharp A50, the air outlet is angled at 20 degrees backwards. it's actually a deliberate feature to blow the cleaned air backwards.

But why ah ?
