Good find. $88 is a very good price. If you need a backup/something to augment the cleaning together with the current air purifier should you need to move it to the living room, this is it.

Use this as replacement filter. It is 98% efficient at 0.3 microns (stock is 85%). I have tested it in my A28, windspeed airflow is good.

It's very easy to cut for this, coz 1 side already fits. Just have to trim along the "easy" side, ie along with the pleating. 1 minute job. Use another 2 minutes to stuff tissue paper.
Seriously, you'd need to stuff with tissue paper even with the stock filter anyway. Sharp air purifier filter designs are known to be pretty "loose" and have a good amount of dust collected at the sides due to bypass.

RMB 29.90. Get 5 pieces and it's RMB 26.91

I changed out the HEPA for my Novita NAP501 with the H12 filter that I got from the taobao seller I shared a few pages ago. (not the one in the abov post).

Measured the output in High speed. Before = 9.5kph. (granted, this is a used filter of 10 months)
Stock HEPA (the white colour portion) = 17mm depth.

Taobao filter = 25mm depth. After = 12.1 kph. :D Increase of about 20% in airflow.

Previously I mentioned I have done this for my Samsung AX40 and noticed a slight drop of about 20%. Stock flter = 37mm. I replaced with a 44mm thick filter. ie thicker.
SAme thing, this Samsung filter has been used for the same amount of time as the Novita, so you can't say that there is much difference between the 2 cases.

I guess perhaps it has to do with the motor's torque/speed. Maybe the Samsung's motor is wired for more airflow but provide less "suction" ie Hg/mm is lower.
So it's affected more. The stock Samsung HEPA is very good, very low pressure drop.

So right now, the Novita NAP501's turbo mode is pushing out quite a fair bit of air. Got a decent performance upgrade. I was expecting worse. :)

This filter is measured to be about 96-97% efficient @ 0.3 microns.

New Winix 2015 models. AWP600R and AWP1090R. S$249 for the former.
This is a well known brand, sold in the USA also. Amazon does carry it. In the AHAM list (USA) thus have a CADR number to it also.

Original filter not very ex, S$70 only.

Samsung AX40 is cheaper than AWP1090R. :o

Specs ard the same ba. Same thing, the Winix probably has a medium speed, while the Samsung AX40 does not have a medium speed.

Don't know what Samsung engineers are thinking about.

Even a cheap Novita 501 has low, med, high and Turbo.

Forest fires expected to worsen in extreme weather | The Jakarta Post

Forest fires expected to worsen in extreme weather
The Jakarta Post, Batam/Pekanbaru | Archipelago | Sat, March 07 2015, 7:52 AM

It is feared that extreme weather, human error and limited fire extinguishing facilities will worsen forest fires in Batam, Riau Islands province, with fire frequency predicted to increase this year.

Data from the Batam Free Trade Zone Authority (BPK FTZ) fire department show that there were 102 cases of forest fire from January to March 6 this year, while the total number of forest fires last year was 336 cases, each covering over five hectares of forest.

“The fires were due to human actions and the extreme dry season,” fire department head Slamet Riyanto said. Moreover, given that his department had only 16 fire engines, he said, the number of forest fires would probably be higher this year.

The latest reported case occurred in a forest in Tiban Kampung Batam. As of Friday, over five hectares of forest had burned down, spreading thick smoke across the area.

Meanwhile, in Riau province, efforts to extinguish forest and land fires with artificial rain using weather-modification technology have been halted for several days after the Cassa 212-200 aircraft used in the program experienced an engine problem.

Head of the artificial rain technical managing unit (UPT) at the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), Heru Widodo, said that an engine problem had been spotted on the left wing of the aircraft that his office had rented from Pelita Air Service.

“The oil is leaking. For safety reasons, we decided not to force the aircraft to fly,” Heru said over the phone from Jakarta on Friday. The damage was found as the aircraft was about to take off on a second cloud-seeding sortie on Wednesday afternoon. The plane was taken to the haze post at Roesmin Nurjadin airport in Pekanbaru.

Heru explained that BPPT technicians had tried to fix the problem but had failed because the necessary spare parts had to be brought from Jakarta. Because of the damage, salt-based cloud-seeding has halted temporarily. “To help reduce hotspots for the time being, we are conducting water-bombing using two helicopters,” Heru said.

The last cloud-seeding operation was reported to have caused rain to fall over the Dumai, Indragiri Hilir and Pelalawan regions, he said. “Hopefully the Cassa can be repaired soon so that more artificial rain can be made,” he said, adding that natural rain was falling, but not equally over all regions.

Based on observations from the Pekanbaru station of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) using the Terra and Aqua satellites on Friday morning, Riau still has the most hotspots in Sumatra.

Of the 58 spots detected across the island, according to the observation, 32 were detected in six regencies in Riau. The highest number of hotspots — 18 — was detected in Bengkalis regency, followed by Pelalawan (five spots), Meranti Islands (four), Siak (two), Indragiri Hilir (two) and Rokan Hilir (one).

“Twenty-two of them have an at least 70 percent likelihood of being hotspots,” said agency spokesperson Slamet Riyadi. He predicted that rain would not fall on most of Riau’s eastern coastal regions for the next few days, meaning peatland would remain dry.

“In Meranti Islands, eastern Bengkalis, Pelalawan and Siak, there’s a more than 70 percent chance of rain,” Slamet stated. -

if not enough fire engines or other equipments...get more with more manpower to prevent and stop the fire from spreading further... areas not enough...expand it... ask from their government for more budget. Every year at least once / twice this happened... they should prepare and prevent it advance...why wait till problem become catastrophic? Maybe they want to burn down their country first? then rebuilt it to become better from the fresh start?

Chiang Mai hospitals warned of worsening smog
The Nation March 10, 2015 1:00 am
The Chiang Mai Provincial Public Health Office has instructed hospitals to prepare medical supplies for more patients suffering from smog-triggered illnesses, as the air pollution in the North remains severe.
Office executive Dr Surasing Wisaruthrat yesterday said that 70,000 to 80,000 facemasks would also be distributed among at-risk persons, especially those living in outer districts where field burning and wildfire usually occurred.

Tiny particles at downtown Chiang Mai were reported at 134 micrograms per cubic metre at Tambon Chang Pheuk and at 155 mg per cu/m at Tambon Sri Phum, which were beyond the safety level of 120 mg per cu/m.

Also 101 hot spots were reportedly found in Chiang Mia province on Sunday, 26 of which were in Mae Chaem district followed by Omkoi and Samoeng districts with 11 spots each.

Smog linked to jump in heart attacks
Pratch Rujivanarom,
Aryuthai Nonnitirut
The Nation March 4, 2015 1:00 am

A CHIANG Mai University heart specialist has raised concern over rising heart attack cases amid the recent surge in serious air pollution in the North.
Dr Rungsrit Kanjanavanit, a cardiologist at Chiang Mai University's Maharaj Hospital, said the number of patients suffering acute myocardial infarction dramatically increases at this time of the year - notorious for farm burn-offs and thick smog across the North.

The amount of tiny-particle dust now exceeds safe levels in Lamphun, Chiang Mai and Lampang provinces, while flights in Mae Hong Son were cancelled due to poor visibility.

"From my observation at this hospital, heart attack cases have risen from three to four a month to three to four a day. This phenomenon that happens every dry season and has been continuing for more than 6 years now," Rungsrit said.

He indicated that air pollution could increase the chance of heart attack, especially when the volume of particulate matter with a maximum diameter of 2.5 microns (PM2.5) is high.

"Unlike PM10, which is larger particulate matter in the air, PM2.5 can be inhaled into the pulmonary alveolus inside the lungs, which thickens blood and sometime blocks the blood vessels," he explained. "Everyone should stay indoors; especially vulnerable persons including children, the elderly and those who have a heart condition, high blood pressure or diabetes, if the air pollution is high. They should relocate if possible," he said.

The doctor suggested people should check air quality in their area daily via the "Air4Thai' application, available in both iOS and Android smartphones.

At Mae Hong Son, airport director Weerawat Takong said Karn Air's ART-60 flights to and from Chiang Mai have been cancelled due to poor visibility since Monday. Pilots require visibility of at least five kilometres but visibility is now only three kilometres. Local officials have been spraying water into the air to lower the dust level.

Officials were also doing this in Lampang. Nakhon Lampang Mayor Thanin Supasang started an air pollution reduction campaign, with fire trucks spraying water into the air.

During the dry season from January to March, farmers often burn their fields to grow new crops - despite officials urging them not to

Chiang Mai 1hr PM10 is actually 400ug/m3 or AQI 235

PM2.5 likely to be more, possibly hazardous zone above AQ I 300.

Heng is that the wind there esp Cambodia and S vietnam is no longer NE. Hence the PM2.5 is easily carried over. PM10 wont go so far. Remember Kalimantan 1400km away also affects SG.

Besides that,

Trash burning blamed for Chiang Mai smog

Authorities are blaming local residents for burning garbage that caused thick smoke to blanket wide areas of Chiang Mai.

Fire trucks and crews from the Mam Phrae municipality on Wednesday were sent to extinguish a fire on Klong Chonprathan Road in tambon Nam Phrae of Hang Dong district. Motorists drove cautiously and slowly due to poor visibility.

Local authorities believed thick smoke and dust was caused by the burning of garbage by local residents that quickly spread to roadside weeds.

Dust particles at Chiang Mai's provincial hall were reported at 103 microgrammes per cubic metre at noon against a health standard of 120 mg per cu/m. The air quality index was measured at 90, against a health safety standard of 100.

In another location, the particle level at Yupparaj Wittayalai School in this northern province was reported at 124, while the air quality index was measured at 102.

I am very surprised that even Thailand has a more comprehensive publicly accessible and range definable with max, min, average figure displayable and able to plot graphs for PM10/PM2.5/other pollutants than our NEA.gov.sg (which lists only 1 day's worth of 1hr concentration data).

With proper harnessing of IT tools, such capabilities can be in users hand, ie publicly available.
The hard truth is that even though Singapore is more advanced IT-wise than Thailand, such capabilities in NEA, if available, are only privately accessible :(
