Anyone else looking at the Alienware 13?
This will be my first Alienware and I am damn excited.

Looks like it will be launched this Monday Oct 27 in NYC.

From past experience, do you guys know which shop in SG offers the best deals for Alienware? Is it Dell online, Dell outlet, Newstead, etc?

*Apologies if there is already a separate thread for the Alienware 13.

I have been meaning to own one since I was a student. Now that I can finally afford it I wont let this chance go!

I have a desktop for the real gaming experience and will need a portable for bedroom / on vacation gaming hehe.

Please don't burst my bubble I am aware of Aftershock being the most reasonable piece out there. You can laugh all you want but I am sure alienware users wont mind =)

yes aftershock is the most value for money laptop out there. can get top of the range gtx980m for a very good price. those specs will destroy the alienware 13 anyday! and price wise it'll be for sure be much less.

for ur info.. alienware is build to last and if u wan to change the internal component, u may do so urself and it quite easy...

also the warranty is a 24/7 onsite with accidental damage coverage....meaning if u spill drink or wat and it beyond repair they will replace a unit for u!!!

and like wat u say.... alienware another plus point is showing off ^^

one last point. normally ppl laughing at those who own alienware normally they are envy on them..(not to aim or pin point at any1)

Not sure what is your definition of build to last though. And when you mentioned quite easy to change components, what kindda components are you implying?

Alienware is a known gaming laptop brand, but I don't think its close to perfect. Price is definitely not its strength. From a gamer point of view, I think it makes more sense to get a system that is good in value and with good specs since laptops are not the most future proof system. If I think of a brand to show off, I rather carry a Macbook Pro since I use it for work purpose as well.

Yeah i agree with what you said. If you keep a lookout on the pricing, you might get it at a good price. I got my alienware 17 for 2.5k only.

1 example of the component that is easy to change is the gpu. The gpu you can use any brands like clevo and msi it will still work in the machine. No flashing required. Even a quadro card can be installed.

For other machines you need a video bios flash to make the system detect the gpu.

Last but not least the accidental warranty is superb.

it depends on the specs of your machine... for those latest machines do you think 2.5k will be enough? imo alienware's general price as compared to other laptops is more exp but quite a bit

Precisely thats the point i was getting into. Buy the cheapest configuration and change the gpu youself. Thats what i meant by easy to modify. Any gpu be it dell or clevo or msi will work without any flashing.

I can have a machine with gtx980m with about 3k plus without having to spend like 4k plus.

3k plus is alr quite expensive for that alienware with 980m ... considering aftershock's s15 model can go at around 3.5k with much superior specs to alienware. with 4k screen maxed 32gbs of ram with gtx 980m and triple fan cooling system plus it has better portability due to its slim form factor. i'd choose aftershock over alienware anyday since its more value for money with better performance and specs.

what you mentioned getting it at 3k plus only applies to alienware laptops where you can get gtx 980m cheaper if you install the gpu yourself.. any way theres no alienware with 980m/970m in market now also.

yes 3k plus u can get other brand with super high end spec than alienware..
but plz remember, how good is the alienware cooling system compare to other brand..

not to condemn any brand or model, but only alienware i tested it wont get overheat or too warm to touch when playing long hours.. and the material they use are super good..

one more thing, if ppl are looking at alienware. they are mostly not looking at value for money machine but is looking for something they like and long lasting machine....

ps: alienware 13 u can get a docking station to plug in a desktop GPU into it, so u can get a desktop grade gaming performance with a laptop..

one last thing is u can see the exact machine during the pc show at expo this last weekend of the month..(if the shipment no delay or anything)

for ur info, area 51 will be available during the show as well if everything goes well.. the design for alienware 13 and area 51 can view at dell.com (the US website), but plz dun follow the spec because they will be different in local unit(just look at the performance and design)

and also US price cannot take it as a guideline or reference, because it dun do shipping out of US and warranty only cover for USA.(if u bring it back to singapore or ship, u will be tax for 7% and no warranty, do not forget)

got to say i am an alienware supporter. No doubt they are one overpriced piece of machine and not the most value for money option. however, the reason i chose alienware is for the after support. i once called the alienware hotline at 3am on a weekend and the line was picked up within 3 mins. they couldn't resolve the issue over the phone and sent a technician down to my place the following day. probably one of the best support i ever received for a gaming laptop.

alienware laptop are the thickest and bulkiest around, but the reason behind it is the efficient cooling system. at least i can confidently say i on my laptop 24/7 without worry of frying it, and if it gets fried, i still have accidental warranty coverage. i also extended my warranty to 3 years.

next, alienware probably have the easiest to source DIY components should your warranty runs out. Ebay and taobao has plenty if you know what to find. even simlim sq has it too. their parts are easily accessible. go youtube alienware 18 teardown and you will know what i meant.

Personally, i will recommend 2 places to purchase should you decide to get one. Dell online store (cheaper extended warranty) or if you want ready stock, gamepro shop in funan or sls... i bought my alienware 18 from there and got tons of freebies.. not those cheapskate screen cleaner or nonsense laptop cooler, but i got a razer deathadder mouse, a steelseries headset, a logitech gaming keyboard. you guys can look for mike or kelvin or ryan. know them personally as i buy gaming accessories from them often. probably the best gaming accessories/laptop shop i ever come across apart from extreme solution.
