Just came back from shanghai

Share my experiences with their payment system

1. They do accept cash for some shops
2. Wechat, alipay knn half way give me issues like asking for verification or sg bank issue
3. End up i use Tng app to pay for most of my expenses
4. Diff credit cards/banks have diff exchange rate daily. So far citibank is slightly better than ocbc or uob

Does it work by linking Singapore issues union pay atm card by ICBC? The atm card can hold sgd and RMB.

Yes. I link my ICBC UnionPay dual currency cc to both Alipay and WeChat to avoid the 3% above 200 RMB. Can also get cashback.

You have debit card? Should be working well too. Try adding to Alipay

Under one of the agreements announced, DBS Bank was named Singapore’s second renminbi clearing bank, after the Singapore branch of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC).

Another agreement will allow Singapore travellers to China to use digital renminbi for purchases under a pilot programme.

Starting in December, the Singapore branches of the ICBC and the Bank of China will roll out the pilot in phases, enabling customers to open and top up digital renminbi wallets.

Digital renminbi payments can be made in China without internet, as long as users have phones equipped with near-field communication technology. China is one of the top destinations for Singapore travellers.

ICBC dual currency debit card also can, just no cashback for debit card.

I checked union pay website before applying for the card. Their rate is similar to ichange and youtrip. About 5.44 when I checked during lunch today.

You can install Alipay and explore, there are many mini apps within it

A point to take note, every time you go to a new city, you need to authorise Alipay transport 支付宝出行 to bind it the new place. Also remember to toggle between mrt and bus, as they dun share the same QR codes.
