So anyone managed to use Alipay without ID verification? The 2000 USD cap was just announced this month, so takes a while to implement?

What r u worry about? U r a spy, FBI, CIA, etc? U r making yourself miserable. Do u provide info to the local bank? Do u register your details with insurance company? Do u share your information for any membership?

Weird personality.

exactly, when he cross the immigration with his passport all his details are captured( finger print , face etc )...so unless he doesn't intend to step foot in China, than there is no need to even download alipay ?

Yes, pretty ironic. False sense of privacy and security without the required verification yet want to utilise AliPay/WeChatPay. 🤡

Just to update that the AliPay works well in CN. Exchange rate is 5.405 around 12pm today via YouTrip. He bought something from MiXue costing CNY2. The account is unverified BTW so you'll be shown the 15000 CNY limitation. I linked 2 cards to his account, YouTrip and Grab. YouTrip is default.

This seems to be in line with the news, not exactly sure about the amount limit.
Some reports say US$2000 a year now.

No ID is required for transactions under a certain amount when foreigners use mobile payments such as Alipay, Weixin Pay and UnionPay.

Going to GZ for 13 days soon.

I’m able to add both Wise and YouTrip cards to my international Alipay app on my iPhone. I’ve also opted to put in my passport details and have my ID verified.

Have set up Wise as the first choice for payment followed by YouTrip and then wallet balance.

Just checking my understanding after having read through this entire thread.

When I pay with Alipay
1) Wise / YouTrip will convert SGD from my SG bank account to RMB on-the-fly and pay the merchant in RMB right?
2) The SGD amount is immediately debited from my SG bank account which is linked to my Wise / YouTrip card right?
3) I read that there is a 3% fee for payments above RMB200. Is that the fee by Alipay or by Wise / YouTrip?

There was absolutely no mention of Wise card so far here but I assume that I can also use Wise instead of YouTrip. As to why I use Wise instead of YouTrip, I guess it’s because I have used Wise for a long time for different transactions.

Another reason is because I can convert SGD to RMB and store them in Wise, unlike YouTrip which doesn’t include RMB as one of the 10 currencies it can store.

This brings me to my question.

4) If I have RMB in the Wise wallet will Alipay draw down the RMB from Wise wallet automatically until there’s no more balance, then it will start converting SGD from my SG account to RMB on-the-fly again to pay for the transactions? Does it work this way?

And one final question.

5) I set up the Alipay using my SG mobile number. I plan to get a China number when I’m there. Will I be able to replace my SG number in the Alipay account and still get Wise / YouTrip cards to work? Or do I have to re setup everything? I thought easier to just use a China tourist number.

I understand that I may not be able to use FB, WA if I get a China number? But with VPN I might get it to work?

Thanks.

VPN don't work in China. You'll be lucky if it does.

I have always used VPN all the time, since 2007, and it is still working, plus I am using the free version.

Need to really find the right one, and nobody will share which one, because if too many people used it they will have difficulty connecting it.
