I need help regarding my Alishan travel plans. How many hours would you recommend to tour around Alishan, and what are the main areas of Alishan to visit? And also is it feasible to travel there on my own or hire a tour driver?

I will be checking out of my hotel at Sun Moon Lake and head towards Alishan and after touring around Alishan I would be heading to Kaohsiung. All of these on the same day.

I understand from sun moon lake to alishan is 4hr.
From alishan top to chiayi city is two hours.

So that means lots of time on the road.

And no overnight means no alishan sunrise, no sea of cloud, no sakura now.

Does anyone have the timetable/schedule for the Alishan Forest Railway?

I think the forest railway runs at 9am and sometime in the afternoon on weekdays, then there's an additional 10am slot on weekends. You have to call one day in advance to reserve tickets. But it doesn't go all the way up Alishan so u gotta transfer to a bus at halfway point which is fenqihu.

Advise to take bus up, which is the more convenient option. There are a lot of buses going up daily.

I last booked for a brudder here. Weekdays' service was like start at 9am ending after 1pm at fenchihu.

Weekends has two services. No way you can book online then, have to call in, make transfer and call them back with the transaction code. Then your tickets are reserved for collection.

Cheem n ma fan but easy if you know how to do it.

The best is at Chiayi TRA 6am bus up to Alishan at about 0830hrs. I prefer this mode of transport rather than by rail.

Nope..You can get the timing when ya there..

Anyway, i'm referring to the rails in Alishan Main Recreation Area..Unless u have elderly in ur group, if not we would just take rail in the morning to Zhushan for sunrise then trek all the way back to the main stop..

Hello, any kind soul can advise me if it is reasonable to pay NT4000 for a day's driver (9h) from chiayi to fenqihu to alishan back to chiayi? 2pax only. This is from d!ngtaxi webbie. If I ask my hotel to make this cab arrangement, would it be cheaper than this?

Think u can hop on a bus to alishan first then cab down to fenchihu.

Usually you will need a whole day at alishan. It ain't small to begin with.

Zhushan to alishan station slightly below 2h slow walk passing 姊妹湖，壽鎮宮 etc.
