Sometimes they even compensate 1, happened to me. Wrote about it here.

Yes, I've almost the same experience like you when my kindle broke down beyond repaired. They not only pay for the oversea shipping cost, they refunded me twice :) I have to inform them that they already refunded me ask them to withdraw my second refund by charging into my credit card again.

Their customer service is simply amazing. Trust is the key ingredient of good customer service.

so fast har.... i've just received mail from amazon that my $200+ paperweight has shipped... estimated date is 12 jan to reach hopshopgo....

we can compare borderlinx and hopshopgo shipping rate.... wonder how much to ship to singapore....

hopshopgo is actually just comgateway. Their charges are cheaper than borderinx, but they can be a bit slower sometimes updating the status when the package arrives at their address.

Hey guys! I can see that most of you are rather happy with your Kindle PW. I'm rather excited about purchasing an e-reader for myself too!

However, I'm considering between Kindle PW, and the newest Kindle (Kindle 5). Anyone knows any other differences other than it having the build in light? Such as the dictionary option, and the time it takes to complete the book, etc.

Hope someone would be able to help me make up my mind. Thanks in advanced!

Been using my pw ever since my kindle 5 went bonkers on me a couple of weeks back. Sometimes still miss the kindle 5.

Here is my take

Kindle 5 has physical page turn buttons, a home button, a back button, keyboard button and menu button which to me is the main reason why I love the k5. There's no need to touch the screen to flip pages, access menu, type or anything. Leaves the screen free from any smudges or blemishes. While reading a book, my hand is usually positioned such my fingers are on a page turn button where if needed to turn the page forward all I had to do was depress the button without much pressure. N also it was the most comfortable position for me. Don't have to lift my finger to touch the screen or move any of my fingers at all.

The pw is a touch screen device except for the tiny on/off button at the bottom so everything is done via the screen. But because it is a touch screen device, typing on the pw is a lot easier. The pw screen is such that you don't really need the screen protector as it's pretty resilient against blemishes. That's not to say that it can't get dirty, it can if you've been eating chocolates and what not. For me, while reading on a pw, my hand is positioned such that my thumb is either hovering just above the screen or at the side and touching the screen to flip the page forward. Maybe others have a better way to hold it but that's the most comfortable for me. Here I prefer the physical page turn buttons as to me it is a lot more seamless when turning pages.

I like the wake/sleep function of the Smart Cover even if I have to swipe to unlock after flipping the cover open. I like it because I can just flip the cover close if I have to attend to something urgent unlike the k5 where I have to switch it off then close the cover or close the cover and wait for it to go to sleep by itself. Don't like to waste the battery.

I don't really see the difference in the fonts. To me both look the same. The pw is not crisper than the k5. Maybe I'm just blind

The k5 with a cover is slightly smaller than the pw and it fits very nicely in my berm pockets leaving my hands free and also minimizes the possibility of it slipping through my fingers. The pw with a cover does not fit into some of my berms while I have to force it into the others. But that's not a big thing for me as it's quite rare that I don't carry a bag and I rarely take public transport.

Way before I ever thought of getting a kindle, I had installed reading lamps on my wall in my bedroom so that I can read while in bed but ever since I had to read with the pw my wife thanked me for not disturbing her sleep as she is a light sleeper and the reading lamp disturbs her quite a bit. Tried reading with an iPad but after 15 mins of reading, my eyes get really tired because of the glare no matter how low I set the brightness level to. But the light from the pw does not disturb my wife and I can continue reading in complete darkness without my eyes getting tired. At the right setting, you don't have to keep adjusting your pw for different lighting situations.

The dictionary works pretty well on both the pw and k5 with side loaded books. The k5 does not have the x ray nor the reading progress. Btw looks like the X-ray function does not work that well with side loaded books

Right now, I'll keep on reading with the pw but only because it has a light and the reading progress option

Hope that helps.

The best will be if amazon can combine the both. A pw with physical page turn buttons
Sorry for the long post.

I ordered mine on the 6th around 4-5 AM, it's now delivered to borderlinx, just waiting for them to appear and then ship to sg :s12:
Still need a day for borderlinx to update though :s39:

anyone can advise how long usually the standard shipping from borderlinx to arrive?

Well, the last express shipment I had, I confirm (paid) the shipping on Fri evening (which is their Fri morning), my parcel was ready for delivery to my house by Monday afternoon. Then I did a standard shipment, confirming on the same timing, and I still get my parcel on the same timing (confirm Friday, landed Monday).

So I now use only standard shipment. But, I am not sure if this happens because it was before Christmas - maybe they rush everything out for Christmas. So I guess YMMV.

I'd say going from less to higher res, you won't see much difference. But get used to it for a while, and you'll notice when you use your old Kindle again. This happened to me with iPad 2 and iPad 3, at first they look kinda the same too.

The best will be if amazon can combine the both. A pw with physical page turn buttons
Sorry for the long post.

This will be great, just hope they won't make it so soon.

A pw with physical page turn buttons

I am a bit doubtful, if Amazon's intention is to minimise size and lighten the weight, I doubt they will put in the hard buttons since they are touch screen.

next version, I guess and hope they probably may look into the Audio part. Audio Book has been quite an attractive feature from Amazon. Probably they will enhance their LED lighting and battery portion...

Hey just wondering if this is normal. I charged my kindle to full on sun, been reading no more than 30mins at a stretch. Airplane mode is on, backlight always kept at 0 (lowest setting) yet by today the battery is only at 1/3.

With my tab 7.7 on flight mode, I get less battery drain.

Ya I know. It's wishful thinking on my part but if they ever do I'll be super happy

Check if one of your books is caught in an indexing loop. That could be the issue.

how to check?:s13:

Do a nonsensical search from the home page eg, tydsfghhh. If it shows items not indexed, it means one of the books is caught in the loop. You would have to delete the books one by one to find out which is the culprit.

Understand. having hard buttons may be slightly convenient to some people. Who knows, maybe Amazon People may also surf HWZ too ;)

Hmm, I have 74 books in my pw. I tried search abc = manage to list items. Tried nonsensical word = No item found.
I guess you probably sided those 79 books you had. Because all 74 ebooks I have are sent directly through Amazon Whispernet :)

Hmmm. I have 45 books in my pw and all were side loaded. Tried nonsensical search=no item found also. So I don't think the issue is because of side loaded books.

The PW's indexing is working fine for me. Sideloaded 160+ books last night. Woke up to find all of them indexed.
