Some old reports, not sure whether it is still supported or not.

Tizen doesn’t officially support Android apps, but it is still possible thanks to OpenMobile’s Application Compatibility Layer (ACL), which will be available alongside the Z1’s launch, in the Tizen app store.

What are the apps you are considering? If you are thinking of those illegal IPTV/VOD apps or so called preloaded boxes then yes they will stop working anytime.

For quality box, it will depend on your budget. Mi Box S will be the best for anything below S$100. You can buy from local online shops.

The apps like online movie, Chinese drama, NBA and football. Is this consider illegal apps ?

Most likely, especially anything related to soccer.

Examples of legal apps.
SingTel TV Go
SingTel Cast
Starhub TV+
Netflix
Amazon Prime Video
Apple TV+
TVB Anywhere+
Viu
HBO Go
Disney+
WeTV / Tencent Video
iQiyi
Youku
Mango TV

...

Specific to live sports, it is relatively expensive in Singapore, for example, SingTel Cast Sports Plus is the main legal way if you are not using SingTel TV or Starhub Fibre TV.

Another way is to use VPN to access. As of now Singapore law is not saying it is illegal.

For example, if you are okay with Chinese apps, then China VPN plus China sports apps will be a cheaper way to watch NBA and Soccer.

Tencent Sports: NBA
PPTV Sports: Soccer
China VPN examples: AJS爱加速, Transocks, etc

Better not to buy in Sim Lim square but rather buy boxes from local online shops.

Quality boxes:
Mi Box S -- buy from Xiaomi shops for local warranty or online shops (Lazada, Shopee, Qoo10)

Nvidia Shield TV -- Amazon

If you do not need Netflix HD, then you can consider Minix Neo T5 from local online shops.

The above three boxes are high quality boxes. But you need to pay or find apps by yourself.

I will not recommend preloaded boxes myself. But if you really want to buy those preloaded boxes with those IPTV/VOD preloaded for ease of use, you can try Ubox UPro S from local online shops. You can check out the Ubox thread here. You may have to lower the expectations on the quality and consistency side. Local ISPs are supposed to block them but the workaround seems to be simple (using alternative DNS).

Certified Android TV OS streamer list, not necessarily Netflix certified. Many are not available in Singapore though.

https://sites.google.com/view/droid-tv/streaming-gaming

Minix NEO T5 and Mecool KM 9 Pro, KM3 and KM1 are also certified by Google, but then they are not certified by Netflix.

Other than Nvidia and Xiaomi, Himedia S500 can be an interesting choice with Netflix certification but it does not seem to be widely available.

TVB Anywhere+ has another list which contains both Android TVs and Streamers.

Allwinner H6 CPU is widely used in preloaded boxes like Ubox UPro, UPro 2 and UPro S. EVpad 3rd gen EVpad 3S, 3, 3 Plus and 3Max are also using the box. Same for EVpad 5S and EVpad 5P. There are a few reports of them being a bit hot but mostly okay.

On the other hand, the CPU is hot and the vendor needs to be a bit careful in designing the box, sufficient heat sink needs to be used.

One of the popular yet hot generic box is Tanix TX6. It is hot because the heat sink is not adequate (even for the original version sold in Gearbest.

Tanix is now mostly selling lower end boxes in Gearbest as they no longer sell S905X2 based TX5 Max and S905X3 based TX3 in Gearbest.

Allwinner has come out with H616, the replacement for H6, to compete with S905X2 and S905X3.

Ubox 8 (latest Ubox) now adopts H616 CPU. It has 4GB/64GB configuration, which is a step up from 7th generation UPro S (H6 CPU, 2GB/32GB) but in reality UPro S will be a better buy for Ubox.

Review of Tanix TX6S, a low end box with H616, 4GB/32GB or 4GB/64GB, 100Mbps Ethernet, USB 3.0+2*USB 2.0, 2.4GHz/5GHz wifi.

Unfortunately it is still hot based on the following review. So do not buy.

Super low end CPU for 1080p
Amlogic S905W and RK3229/RK3228

Low end for 4k, listed based on performance
H616> H6 (not good thermal)> H313 and RK3318/RK3328 > S905X

Mid end
S905X3 (good thermal) > S905X2 /S905Y2 (good thermal) > S912

High end
S922X > RK3399

For streaming, low end S905X CPU is already good enough with 2GB RAM, that is why Mi Box S is a good box to buy because of the quality HW and Firmware (official Android TV OS and Netflix certified).

On the other hand, if you buy generic no brand boxes, then S905X3/S905X2 boxes are cheap enough so that is no longer good to buy generic boxes based on other CPUs.

I agree. No point to try Android apk on the Samsung Tizen Smart TV now. Just use an Android TV box to make it smarter. Same applies to LG Web OS TV or other non-Android smart TV (eg: Prism+), or dumb TV.

that was possible when it was android 2.x and the apk file size was a few kb. back then developer used java vm strictly.

the apk files today are not the same anymore, it cannot be done anymore.

China VPN means "going into China" VPN, like AJS爱加速, Transocks, SpeedIn and SpeedCN. You can try the free ads supported Transocks. I pay for AJS myself. They are needed mainly for VOD apps like Tencent Video or iQiyi, not for live TV apps.

As for China live TV, all the above three should still work. 华文电视got pop-up saying the free services may stop soon. 超级直播was not working for a few days but came back again. 电视家 has always been working but yes you need to use wechat to unblock the features.

Still yes there are better apps now.

http://m.shafa.com/list/tv
火星直播
橙色电视Live

The above two apps have no ads. They do not require registration.
