Has it got to do with dye or pigment ink ?

Not sure. Not expert, only experience...

For home use, most AIO printers do a decent job at scanning one-off needs.

IMHO.
Home.
AIO have many limitation E.g. Size, non-duplex, not standalone, software. etc.
That's why there are desktop scanners.

Any suggestions for a colour mfc printer with adf? Quite low volume printing. Am open to both laser and inkjets

1) lightweight and don't take up space
2) print copy/no need fax
3) so far I have saw 2723e

- ink tank is good. doesn't dry; ink is cheap 10/bottle
- have good software i.e. paper port to scan double side and merge using ADF (automatic document feeder)
- sturdy built; 3 year warranty

Me too using Brother AIO ink tank. Initial set of inks lasted for > 4 years. They're supposedly expired but still printed fine with correct colours.

Most importantly, no nozzles clogging issue. Try 'one other brand' without printing anything for a few weeks. You'll see.
