it depends what phone you have and the developers support the phone. with the right developers and supporting kernel and roms, xposed, tasker, greenify, amplify, and the knowledge to know how to tweak it, i can guarantee significant performance and battery life increase. not that i need to prove you wrong but ive been playing with android for a long time starting from samsung galaxy s where i created the thread that share info with people on how to root it and eventually started my own custom oc/uv kernels on xda.Years back, this may be true. But nowadays end users are better off complaining about the lag , sometimes wiping cache. Then biiching abouta bricked phone when something goes wrong.
My first android was a HTC Desire HD, Screen on time 30 minutes. After a custom ROM was slapped on it became an acceptable time. Nowadays there really isn't much difference.. Both custom or stock there is a negligible difference.
hence, it is important to get the "right" phone
