Wouldn’t it hurt more for the kids to know they grew up in a sham family .. there was an article that says it’s better to divorce earlier but on good terms . To allow the children to adapt and understand the situation.

There are many types of relationships between a married couple = marriages come in many 'patterns' with each having own thinking, whether such thinking is logical or not.

Many still believe kids need to have both parents intact regardless of whatever (even some in abusive violent relationships still stick together) then kids can grow up 'well'. Once such parents hold such belief, then basically they will stick together for as long as possible.

'duties' means attending parents' birthday celebrations, CNY reunion etc etc.

at home still sleep in same room.

My child's friend recently parents (about 60 yo) getting a divorce. Basically the dad said kids all grown up and he wants a life of his own before it is 'too late'. His kids (around 30 yo) were shocked as all thought their parents were loving. After they heard their dad pouring out his sorrows in tears (about having to put up with a domineering wife for years for the sake of keeping family peace and unable to pursue own interest etc), they supported his decision. (the divorce decision was triggered by something quite minor, like a piece of used tissue on the table and the wife nagged and nagged and nagged and he finally decided enough is enough).
