Anyone is also using the StarHub UltraSpeed (10Gbps)? I am so frustrated. (Solved by upgrading ONR firmware.)

I recontracted to the 45 dollar one without router but requested for ONT which they clearly stated in the contract. Now another headache is to consider which router would best suit me. Hope the above helps anyone interested on hopping on the 5gbps SH plan.
[sorry ah double reply]

A router -- regardless of brand -- that has at least one PAIR of 10G Ethernet WAN (connect to ONT) and 10G LAN port (for you to connect to additional 10G switch, a compatible mesh unit, a suitable access point AP, etc.)

if budget is on the lower side (which is okay cos current Wifi 7 and Wifi 6E still overpriced in SG in my opinion!) then the current ASUS ones are probably out cos darn expensive in SG unless you buy via China ecommerce.

This way you don't bottleneck the 4+Gbps you get from the fibre point to ONT (none of us will get total 5Gbps just like the 10Gbps plan subcribers only get 8.xGbps max during off-peak)

do you need to buy a new PCI-E 10gbps lan card to get the full bandwidth in desktop?
i'm using B450M motherboard. i'm getting around 900MB in speed test only via Ethernet.
what could be the case?
Master Xiaofan has already replied to you that no single device will consume 10Gbps (or even 5Gbps or 2.5Gbps) at once.

So you can and should definitely consider "spreading" the bandwidth across multiple devices by using 10G compatible router (at least a pair of 10G WAN and LAN ports), a 10G switch, a pair of 2.5G mesh, 2.5G Ethernet to USB-C dongles etc.

Some photos of my unglam setup in the posts here:

https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/starhub-nokia-xs-2426x-a-10gb-port.7037140/post-152704140

even though I was issued ONR for my 5Gbps, I still spread the bandwidth from the 10G port of the ONR to as many devices as I can (currently two 2.5G dongles and two 2.5G mesh router units)

yes that is for sure that need to spread to all the other devices.

Hey guys, I've got this weird issue, hope anyone can shed some light on what might be the cause.

I managed to bridge the Nokia ONR however, after connecting my router, the speedtest performed during the router setup only hits ~34Mbps up and down. Initially I thought it's nothing and will be ok after full setup. But that speed stuck... wired AND wireless.

What could have caused this? Is there a setting in the ONR that I should investigate?

Thanks.

What is your own router used?

What is the computer you use to carry out the SpeedTest? Does it has 10G Network adapter?

Things to try.
1) connect your computer (hopefully you have a 10G capable computer) to the bridged port to see if that works. And check if your computer has a public IPv4 address to make sure the bridging is done correctly.

2) If the above is okay, then the ONR is okay and bridging is done properly.

3) Now check the Ethernet cable between your router WAN port and the ONR bridged port. And then check the Ethernet cable between your computer and your own router LAN port.

How are the users experience in using the provided tp link router in web site browsing, streaming or maybe even downloading activity…

has it been remarkably faster than your previous package?

i guess the better question is what kind of activity will benefit significantly from this 10 gb speed.

if you're asking this you won't need it

an obvious use case would be you can download games from steam faster, assuming your CPU can decompress files fast enough.
Can also download large files faster if you use a download manager.

Most of the users subscribe to 10Gbps not because they really need 10Gbps.
1) Most of Starhub users subscribe because of the EPL and other contents bundle. There was also an S$88 Homehub+ bundle which also attracts many users, including Henry Ng.
2) Some users just like to try new things like 10G or WiFi 7, then the 10Gbps plans are not bad.
3) Very few users will have 10Gbps use cases in reality. Some may need to upload big video files to site like YouTube. Some may host servers at home. Some may be happy at faster speed when downloading big files. Some may do off-site backup to online storages.

Since you are asking, mostly you do not need 10Gbps plan. But if you like to upgrade, Starhub 5Gbps plan pricing at S$45 per month is actually quite attractive for 1Gbps plan users (usually paying around S$40 per month).

1) If you are existing Singtel 1Gbps/2Gbps ONR users (unbridged) and have no issues with the ONR, just go with the Nokia ONR when you upgrade to 5Gbps. The Nokia ONR will be better than Singtel ONRs. Or you can consider Singtel 5Gbps plan if Singtel gives you good recontract pricing.

2) If you are using ONT, then choose to go with XGS-PON ONT option when subscribing to Starhub 5Gbps plan (need to go to the shop). Then use a good 2.5Gbps capable router and use the 5Gbps plan as 2.5Gbps plan if you do not want to buy a 10G capable router yet. You can of course get a 10G capable router as well if the budget allows. For example, you can go with Starhub issued EB810v router with the S$55.39 plan (XGS-PON ONT + TP-Link EB810v 10G capable WiFi 7 router). Those who want to pay more can get better 10G capable routers.

My SH 10g has been down for the past 3 weeks!!!
SH seem to have no clue on how to solve it!!!
At first it was completely down. But past few days it is able to work for a few minutes after restart the fiber modem.
They have got NLT to resplice the fiber port, SH have changed the fiber modem at least 2 times but still not working.

This is the second time I have issues with 10g SH. First time 2 months ago down 3 weeks. Up only a month then now down again

both are very correct...
I dun need tht kind of speed... I am still on 500mbps with the green camp..

I was more interested in the TV channel ( sports + other channels), free netflix premium and disney premium ( will only last till next Mar) in that $11x 10 Gbps package. those channels, netflix and disney itself will be >$100.... which mean the 10Gbps plus router is almost FOC.

The 10GBps is definitely an overkill.... since my current package is good enough.
That is why I want to know will the data transfer/downloading speed will be significant and the coverage of the tp link router by itself.. I am currently using an Asus RT-AX86S plus another asus unit as a mesh system to provide coverage in the whole household.

One of the crazy idea that I had was to sell off the tplink router and stick to my Asus but that will mean max of only 1 Gbps and upgrade to an Asus 10Gbps router in future but it will be very wasteful too ...

If that is the case, I do not think it is a crazy idea to sell the TP-Link EB810v at all. It is perfectly okay to keep the current Asus AImesh setup and sell the EB810v.

You can upgrade to more cost effective 10G capable Asus WiFi 7 router in the future.

Ok, spent days and hours completing this thread.

I signed up on my bed after waking up using hp the 10gbps plan 3 days ago, not knowing the jargons like ONT & ONR. I only know i hv a nucleus connect (now i know its an ont :)

The sign up promo pg says comes with ONR (on loan), netflix, epl, disney, blackbox etc. Then when i signup, it asked me for the Qty of Router, jus a white pic, no brand no nothing, i chose zero. I supposed its a nokia beacon 2 to mesh out my coverage. (Last time im using 3x nest wifi router to mesh). And proceed with the signing up.

Then i 越想越不通, why the regular 10gbps broadband bundle is giving tp link and ont but not my tv bundle??

Then i called SH technical helpdesk, then the malaysian guy spoke to me in mandarin saying oh, the troopers will come see if ur nucleus connect can still be used or not, if can be used then u can carry on using your nest wifi, if not, they will change a ont for u (which at this pt, i presume they will gimme a ont and i can buy a new tokong router (yes!! I love spending money) and he mentioned that you can pay $15/mth for our tp link b810v router.

Then i called SH agn a few hrs time, one indian lady picked up and she sounded more zai then the msian guy, saying the troopers will adv u on what u want and NOT at any point of the 2 calls, did they mentioned anything abt the nokia ONR that's supposed to be given to me.

Then the SAME night, i went down to SH tamp to clarify in person, the cute gal says: mr goh, becos u sign up online, we are not able to amend nor cancel the plan for u, u'll hv to call sales hotline to do amendments, btw, we have aldy submitted the provisioning of opening up port 2 of ur neucles connect, if u wanna cancel it u'll incur a $100+ cancellation fee. (!?!?!?) Heng u cute ah, dowan to argue with u)

Anyhow, its still even cheaper than my existing alacarte of NF, Disney, EPL and 1gbps, so i think all is well.. Netlink worker came just now, chk on my TP for 3min and say ok and left.

Delivery of equipment will be this Sat. So until then, i see whether can i ask for a ont, or stick with my nucleus connect ir they die die will give me nokia onr.

PS. I even bought 3x nest wifi pro for my anticipated 10gbps plan, before knowing that wifi pro only supports 1gb 🤦🤦. Oh i even asked that cute gal why i wasnt Shown Nokia onr in the website upon signing up? She said the hp website, desktop website, and our computer, will see diff things in the signup page, so yes, Mr Goh, u should have seen that IT IS using an ONR.
(3 days ago i didnt even know what an onr/ont is... U expect laymen like me know what those jargons are??)

After browsing around in this forum, I found it very difficult to get technical information, all i got was vague answers and maybe..

I was quite keen to sign up for 10Gbps, but I really need port forwarding for my remote access to my NAS.

All answers, i got is Simba 10Gbps need Tailscale to emulate port forwarding, but only few ports (<=5)
Starhub come with either ONR (which is not port-forward friendly), and some in ONT, which I was quite confused with vague replies if port forwarding is possible.

Simba is cheap, I could configure in-between miniPC server with docker to do port-forwarding features.
But is expensive Starhub ONT 10Gbps really a true dedicated ipv4 (not-cgnat)?

I appreciate if some techies could give me some professional insights.

if you can learn docker you can learn a bit of basic routing/switching...

There isn't any specific weird setups that the local ISPs are running, it's all standard stuff. if you can get a public IP from your ISP, you have the ability host things directly on the internet.

port forwarding is dependant on your router.

Most routers had port forwarding.
But when ISP is deploying Carrier-Grade Network Address Translation (CG-NAT), port forwarding is disabled.
