Since you mentioned brownouts, you might need UPS as it provides electricity. If you haven't used a UPS before, the electricity stored in it isn't for you to continue playing games, but rather gives you enough time to shut down your system gracefully instead of having it crash due to sudden power loss. And you'll be shutting it down because the beeping when it starts providing electricity is beri annoying one. UPS also offer surge protection and voltage regulation.

Frankly, if you live in HDB or condos in Sg, the power supply is stable and not prone to blackouts or brownouts.

But if you stay in landed property, it depends.

Some may not have factored the installation of home EV chargers and additional air-con systems.

Any power supply upgrades tend to expensive many some don't bother.

Then you will need UPS, power conditioners and even backup generators.

It is a mostly rich people problem.

Probably isolated to your own unit.

You need to trace the trip to the exact power point, extension cord and/or device.

Every power distribution box should have a sheet with layout and circuit breaker mapping.

Long long time ago I used APC BR800I coz house always trips during thunderstorms. Higher end ones with USB can ownself shut down PC instead of just buffering extra juice for manual shutdown. I supposed nowadays should have better features?

No idea, suspect I run too many high amperage devices. Trip easily

I used to have UPS. After the battery weakens after 3 years, I give up getting another.

Noticed an increase in power consumption (not based on $$$, but on the watts consumed).

Yes depending on UPS topology they can be energy hogs. Especially datacenter class True Online double conversion units.

The UPS inverter is always charging the battery and another inverter users those batteries to drive the load.
This results in zero switching time om case of power loss and complete isolation of incoming power from the load.

On the other hand you take a double efficiency hit since there are losses charging the battery, and converting DC back into AC.
