sian don't think i can accumulate enough opti $ to cash out $50
That's why I'm sticking to ANZ Travel. At least have option to cash out $20 or $50. $20 is easier target to reach for those who are not big spenders.

The trick is to use optimum card for mainly 5% rebate category. The amount spent to get 50 optimum$ is $1000++.

If anz cards is used and rebate conversion rate is 1%, the amount spend to get $20 is $2000+ which is higher than $1000++

i just got my optimum.

so the optimum usage (pun intended) for this card is to swipe everything to this card until $600, redeem the optimum $100 to offset the bill and thereafter max out the 5% rebates from our chosen category??

plan to max this card out to get the $100, and chose travel as my category for family travels etc (my family travel abit, avg 20k per year).

the rest dining etc, will be spent on ocbc 360.

hope my idea here is correct. anyone think this doesnt work too well?

20k a year

better even, apply 2 optimum cards, ask one of your other family member. One for dining, one for travel. WIN!

i'm not a big spender too. i definitely find it a bit stretch to charge $500 or $600 per month consistently to qualify for other banks' credit card rebate schemes.

but not so for this optimum card. if you dine-in in any (low end) restaurant with your bf/gf/wife, it easily set you back at least 50-60 dollars. if you are a small family of 4 which is typical in our context, a family meal of $80-100 is not uncommon. and we are talking about merely 1x or 2x restaurant dining per month. if you do the math, it is not difficult to cum 100-150 of the 5% per month. you can easily hit the 1000++ spending in 6-9 mths. not a lot of rebate but easily achievable.

eg of low end restaurants (with due respect) - astons, han's, jack's place & etc.

dining got so good?

i was thinking use the ocbc 365 card. 6% higher although non weekends is 3%.

another is cause i have a 360 account with them. can spend above 500 easily to clock the additional interest.

so anz optimum would thus be a pure travel card

But not banquet right.

How they differentiate between banquet or restaurant ah? Since both merchants are the same

if u choose "dining and leisure' category , it doesnt matter which since this cat gives close to 5% rebates to both hotels and restaurants.

Hi,

Does anyone know what falls under the Travel category? The website mentions airlines, travel agencies and online travel portals.

How about purchase of travel visa, travel insurance, hotel bookings (either direct or through online portals) and car rental?
