My Apple TV 4K Box didn't really give me high quality video when I depended on it. Quality of 4K Dolby Vision content drops to sub 720p quality (potato quality in other words) during peak hours which is usually at night when any normal person wants to enjoy their movie after work.

I have yet to ever experience Netflix doing this to me at all. Not even once. But with this ATV4K, goodness, this has been one of many numerous times that I had seen the video quality drop like crazy. So much for wasting thousands of dollars on the many movies that I bought for streaming. :vijayadmin:

Hopefully there is some updates on Apple TV launch later today during the conference.

I'm giving up waiting.

Google is releasing their Android TV stick .. and so is Xiaomi.

Price < S$100
Ease of use = checked
4k Youtube = checked
Direct connection / power to TV = checked
Portability of using a media stick compared to a traditional setup box = checked

Really the draw of upgrading my Apple TV is non-existent already.

Haha, I am happy with my Mi Box S. And I have the old Apple TV 3rd generation which is still working fine with Apple TV+ (one year free subscription because I bought an Apple iPad 2019). The old Chromecast 1st gen is also working fine. Then I have XBox One S.

No incentive buying new generation of Apple TV really as I do not have any 4K TV.

dun think there will be hardware announcement though

i want a new Apple TV badly. My movie collection is on iTunes. Netflix and YouTube app on my PRISM+ TV just doesn't feel that good.

some bad things about films on iTunes, some of them doesn't carry English subtitles. (e.g. Lord of the Rings Extended Collection, most Mission Impossible films). though some can go real cheap at 5 SGD.

some of the apps I use regularly:
Twitch
Netflix
YouTube
MeWatch
Prime Video (not so much)

No updates on Apple TV hardware at all.
Btw, what is wrong with PRISM TVs? Their 3 years walk-in warranty + high refresh rate is very enticing. But understand that their OS is modded and not exactly Android TV OS.

their Smart TV series is still the normal refresh rate (60Hz), given that price.

the thing is theirs is proprietary Apps written by the hardware providers. So if there's any changes to YouTube or Netflix, I am at the mercy of the providers on whether they wanna update their apps. Not that I care about them anyways, since all my apps are on Apple TV.

other than that, the backlight bleeding can be annoying. Their 43" doesn't come with overscanning feature so in the default Standard video setting, you will not be able to see full screen (have to switch to PC mode)

other than that, I think its okay lar given the price for a 4K TV + warranty.

but I will try to get a XiaoMi TV next for my living room next.

Apple TV 4K with A12X chip is still coming. There will be an avalanche of new products launch from Apple from quarter 3 onwards.

with the mibox s, do you have anything that can airplay on it? or do you use the apple tv 3rd gen for such scenarios?

You can install apps like Airscreen, Airpin or HappyCast to enable Airplay for the Mi Box S.

But yes I use Apple TV 3rd gen for Airplay myself occasionally (seldom using Airplay though after my Mac Mini 2011 died).

My Mi Box S is not connected to the main TV, but rather a 24inch LCD screen.

The biggest problem (my most annoying grunt) is that the wait for the new Apple TV is taking waaaaaaay too long.

Good things are worth the wait ;)

Imagine an Apple TV running A12Z instead of A12X and I with an Apple Game Controller 😏

Would like to ask if apple tv box is the only way to view apple+ shows on my smart tv? I know some newer TV support apple AirPlay but mine doesn’t. And since apple tv app doesn’t support chromecast, I can’t cast to my tv from my phone.

Amazon’s Fire TV stick supports Apple TV native app also.
If not, that’s all options there is. Unless of course u choose to do the ‘boring’ Airplay/Screen cast option which personally I hate.

Anyway I seriously am bit angry w Apple on this long excruciating wait for the new model. Simply ridiculous.

Some smart TV actually has AppleTV built in along with AirPlay.
