It looks like ApplePay is now available in Singapore for Amex cards! Managed to add the card, will test it out later at a merchant.

Issue is there are not many amex issued cards with good benefits.

Can try at stores that accept expresspay (amex version of visa paywave). You supposed to tap on the contactless card reader yourself.

You can add credit or charge cards to Apple pay wallet but currently only for American Express issued cards. It will be extended to bank issued Amex card in later months.

Currently few merchants like Fairprice, Shaw, uniglo, Din Tai Fung and Starbucks accept Apple Pay but it will be extended to Giant, cold storage, food republic, bread talk and even 7-eleven!

Expect some promotions coming soon.

I'm not in Singapore currently, but Apple Pay will work with all retailers who take contactless regardless whether they display the Apple Pay logos or etc. So even if your favourite curry spot takes contactless, do give it a wave. Warning though, it is quite addictive, lol!

Ohh is it? Actually I'm quite confused when I see those contactless terminals. Some includes stickers for VISA, MASTER, EZLINK, AMEX. But some will have missing stickers (which I assume does not accept).

Am I wrong though? No logo = not accepted.

Usually the machine will have visa logo, but even if no mastercard or amex logo they may also be accepted. For example no logo for amex on contactless machine but the shop accept amex, chances are amex expresspay is accepted also. Anyway no harm to try.

Think for ezlink chances they will show logo if it is accepted.

I dare to say most time, it is the staff who doesn't know how to operate the machine so tell customer not accepted or spoil.

Most important question to me right now (though it'll probably only be relevant when other banks come on board): are the payments counted as online payments, or just follow the merchant code? May need to reconsider my card strategy accordingly. :s13:

Don't see how it may be taken as online payment. Probably taken to be same category as paywave.

Tried it today and it works. Very straight forward.. Place phone on reader and scan your fingerprint on the phone. No fumbling on my first try haha.

I noticed around Raffles Place many lunch places already use the Citibank contactless terminal and have pasted an Amex logo, so all of them should work.

Agree with shamus it's quite a novelty so quite addictive haha. Might be using it for a while but Amex is not my primary card since the rewards earn rate aren't great :s

It's probably same category as paywave, or many a whole new category. The receipt I got today show's a completely different card number (mostly masked but first 6 digits and last 3 were showing) from my actual card. So this is likely part of the ApplePay specific number which is apparently better security that your actual card number is not stored.

Also wondering if credit card discounts can be applied if paying by Apple Pay - somehow I'm not too hopeful. Ultimately... Not too attractive an option, at the moment.

Sounds fun to do once or twice, though! :s11:
