Because there is a difference between running shoes and walking shoes.
I am wearing ASICS running shoes as walking shoes. The right support is the key. Not soft , hard or need to “feel the ground”. My feet will unknowingly yield inward when I stand straight up for a period of time, this will cause bad posture therefore causes stress point on the lower limb structure.

Sports shoes are generally more expensive than shoes for casual walking. Less than a $100 can get a good pair for walking. However, if you are retiring your running shoes you can use them for walking

But wearing shoe like safety boots which is hard with slight cuhion for a long period of time make the feet sole so sore at the end of the day & felt relieved once you take it off your feet.
Yes stepping onto hard floor feel soft...

If you are accustomed to cushioned shoes, do not immediately jump to barefoot shoes, you will destroy your knees.

Need to slowly transition by slowly reducing the amount of cushioning you have.

i got a pair of wide-toed Hoka.....it's the only shoe i can wear and walk for 10km+ without any aching/blisters on my foot.

the normal hoka i have nice to walk in as well, but my little toe gets blisters after extended walking like all other branded(or not) shoes.

I saw a guy with gym wear walking on a pair of FiveFingers shoes few wks ago, he told me he spent $200+ for it. It looked simple with no cushion, n he said he could feel the ground when walking.

The price is not decent though is good for our feet 😔

I dont see any issue using running shoe as walking shoe . Runner will also feel tired half way during the race and ended up walking . Of coz there are some running shoes have stability issue if used for walking . Such as Nike alphafly

I used to wear NB 1080 as walking shoe as the shoe width at toe box is wide for my feet

My shoes wearing history was like from Bata to expensive ones like Nike, Geoxx and now back to Bata again. As get older simple and thinner sole which can feel the ground is better

yes and no

long term use yes
short term last resort last step to relief no

like all "support" item, long term use will just weaken your muscle and core
leading to worsen condition the "support" is suppose to help in the first place
