The same can be said for graphics cards that over time become unoptimized for particular coins. Insufficient VRAM is one reason. And they have already created forks in order to let these GPUs to continue to be usable. Or sometimes entire new altcoins.
So now it is just different groups of people trying to convince others that somehow what they're doing is worth money.
That is DAG size. In time DAG size will increase, there is a estimated timeline for this for all altcoin. So 2Gb cards are now unable to mine for most altcoins. 3Gb cards are also on the way out. This is known to miners.
That is different from hard forking. Please read up and understand first before giving wrong info.
Developers will hard fork to make coin mining ASIC-resistant. ASIC makes mining centralized, rich individuals and farms buy hundreds and thousands of ASIC to mine. 1 ASIC machine can be equivalent to tens or hundreds of GPU in mining power or hashrate.
ASIC machine are so loud that it is not conducive to mine at home.
The modus operandi of blockchain is to decentralized. Of course there are large GPU farms but their impact on coin mining difficulty is not as bad as ASIC.
