Any recommendations for a foldable touring bicycle for a female? Have not done much research yet. Am just looking at Bike Friday and Tern. Open to more suggestions. Budget say up to $4k. Or should I just get her a durable road bicycle?

Space and time taken to set if up/fold it are the least concern.

Main concerns are comfort, ease of getting parts and reliability.
maybe can get a surly long haul trucker
Long Haul Trucker | Bikes | Surly Bikes

its a custom frame there is no "stock" setting avaliable so you can kinda specify what you wanna get.

they have the fatter 26" if you need to take up more weight or the skinner 700c (28" equivalent) which enables you to go faster.

much easier to get parts too since there's a huge availability of wheels. tire choices and either mtb or road drive train. Can get hollow tech 2 crank , for easy removal/installation.

Then, get a custom touring bike from Thorn Cycles, Rodriguez, True North, Co-Motion, Honey Bikes, etc. Get it built with a Rohloff hub and Gates drivetrain.

Since she is a female, she will most likely best fit with 26-inch wheels.

Consider having it built with SS couplers along with a special suitcase for a broken-down bike.

The above will blow your 4K budget but what the hey. :s22:

If you want to talk more, PM me, I used to do solo, self-supported touring. Been through over a dozen countries.
