That's not a long distance at all. You may be better off making sure that your bike is the right size for you. Then, get a pair of good bicycling gloves and biking shorts.

My normal short distance is 25km once-twice weekly. And will go slightly further during either friday or saturday. About 50-60km. Long distances would be between 70-90. And I am using a much smaller bike than yours.

I don't see the need for you to upgrade other than your engine and comfort.

Hi there. It appears that I should have mentioned that the distance was considered long from my perspective. My bike has been nothing but lovely for me, there's no obvious discomfort. I think it's only natural to consider upgrades.

Say I plan to change to drop bar and shifters, as well as upgrade my fork, what are some things to look out for when buying them? I also do plan to get a pair of bike gloves and biking shorts. What are some affordable range of brands that y'all recommend and which LBS may stock them?

Haha. I am very new. And no, not soon. I am grossly overweight and need to slowly build it up. The bike was motivation to exercise and to go further.

Haha. Your wols makes me feel like I'm crawling.

It was listed on TGP for $1800. Bought it this morning. But now I don't find the ad.

Can. =) Need to train first before I get nearer your level.

Yep. Better be safe.

I do chill rides as well :D not an issue

IMHO not worth it to upgrade, unless you really really like the bike. Its good that you enjoy riding no matter the distance :D

I dont think you can get a drop bar shifter and fork for 250... not at least a reputable brand with an acceptable level of quality.

as for biking shorts i like f2p and Pearl izumi a little ex. china tabao shorts are only so so in quality

QFT...

Best thing is it's a floodlight, now a thrower. Very important for cycling if you ask me.

And the 18650 batteries can be swapped. Very good for long distances when bringing spare batteries.
Ya, best thing is the beam spread. No use if 1800 lumens is just concentrated on one spot.

Absolutely agree. No need for a hardware upgrade at those distances. Save your $$$

Yeah, there are too many cheap lights out there where the beam patterns are ridiculous. Either too spread out or too concentrated. And a lot of bicyclists point their lights right in your faces. What is the point of lighting up the trees?! :s22:

If traffic really heavy then i will go onto pavement. Thanks for the concern guys! :D:D

Pavement also human traffic..Unless u're going against the traffic on the pavement behind Ngee Ann/Wisma/Taka etc etc..

The last time i did that stretch was about 11pm on a Friday night from MBS going back home..Can be done on the pavement with ease..

Thanks for the reply. I understand. I'd rather go for quality components for the long term too. 😅 Some $$$ saved, and to be channelled to funds for gloves and shorts. :D

Btw, how safe would y'all say Lor Halus would be at night? Wild dogs and all. It's more often that I cycle alone. I'm still in the midst of exploring routes. :)

Sharing my personal experience here.

I bought a hybrid 3 years ago, after deciding I wanted to cycle. After recently going through the want-to-upgrade path (SD, Sn would know! :D), I've only just bought myself a road bike. I was lucky and got a decent (actually, it's pretty tricked out) bike 2nd hand. It's a cyclocross, so it's quite close in spec to my previous bike.

It's very different from the hybrid, and I wouldn't have known the difference had I not taken the plunge. I'm still very new to drop bars and all, but I've commuted to/from work (It's less than 5km from home, so an easy choice for me) the past 2 days, and I'm slowly getting used to it. And you'll laugh seeing a roadie on the pavements, but yeah I laugh at myself too. :s13:

My take, instead of spending the money on upgrades, put it in a fund. Save up until you eventually hit 1-2k where you know it's going to be spent, then buy your bike. If you prefer, camp on tgp and wait. You may get lucky and stretch your dollar more. Of course, selling your current bike will nett you a bit more money, but you'll be bike-less for a while.

I won't dare cycle near wild dogs. :s13: Don't think I can outpace a hungry pack!

Hahaha, to see if the branches got hantu or not. Was riding along ECP one night and noticed a white flowy figure on the branches high above. Chua tio then looked harder at it and it was a darn kite that got stuck there.

Where was it stolen? I store my bike at home. If I cycle to work, I'm lucky that I can store my bike in the office.

/Dan

I parked it at MRT station. Good that you can store it at home and in office.

Other than a lock, consider getting an alarm system. Those that can sound off when detected vibration.

I saw this in NTUC Xtra, think it is $50+
