GT Transeo 4.0

My friend ask me if I want to change my BB to a ST 2 BB? What is a ST 2 BB and can it fix onto my GT Transeo 4.0?

I don't know what ST2 is, but I think your friend could be referring to a Shimano Hollowtech II Bottom Bracket.

If so, then looking through the internet briefly, your GT Transeo 4.0 comes with a Suntour NEX 48/38/28 crank, which probably means it's a cartridge based BB.

You will be hard pressed to find a 48/38/28 HollowtechII crank - perhaps the Deore 48/36/26 crank is the best option if you wish to retain the gearing options. Pros for the HT, I feel it's a little easier to service/maintain, and it's stiffer and lighter. But it's also more cost on your part - you have to replace a perfectly good working crank for not much tangible gain. IMO, it's not worth it - better off saving the money and eventually replacing the entire bike.

Just an update. Upgrade successful. =) Managed to help upgrade a friend's 7 speed 105/Exage to 5700. =)

Thanks Sadisticnoob for the help with the Bottom Bracket. It was English threaded, 68mm width. New crank feels more solid. Also managed to get a clamp to guide the rear brake cable up as it's a step-through frame that lacked that one cable boss.

Also learnt how to service my bike in the process - re-greased the headset bearings too. Now I need to learn how to re-grease my wheel hubs and I can service my own bike at home. :D

Hmm it must be a relatively new bike thats why you can upgrade to 10 speed.

how much did you spend in total ? since you have to change the wheel

How do i choose a Bluetooth earpiece for cycling?

Budget 30 to 60 dollars.

Use on one ear for listening to spotify and answering phone calls during riding?

Must be able to hear environmental sound like cars behind.

Must be quite securely fixed to my ears but not bulky. Must not be blown away by wind.

Using with mi 4i Bluetooth 4.1.

Go where can test sound quality before buying?

Will ask him to show me the BB. He said is made in Indonesia and cost $60. Deore crank is nearest to my current crank.

Was a 1991-1995 frame. Wheelset, managed to get a WH-501 for $100, complete with tubes, tyres and skewers. The 5700 groupset was $350. Cables and all other misc, under $500 total.

Turns out the frame was already spaced for 130mm, so no work needed to re-space. Had to widen the hole for the brake caliper to be mounted though - vintage brakes use a uniform through bolt with a nut to secure, but the modern brakes have a different way securing to the frame. That took a bit of effort but I managed it. Managed to convert the down tube shifters to cable stops, so it was possible to change to STI levers.

For those who have the same idea, what was "standard reach" brakes in the past is now "long reach" (47-57) today. Just so you know what to look out for.

Looks good and classy.

But cannot mount other gadgets and can't see gear indicator anymore?

Still can. The handlebar bag is a nice accessories to have but not practical. Gonna change the closing method, add a buckle. Also make it smaller. A tad bit too big. But my 4/3 camera fit into the bag! :s22:

Just got myself a Trendwoo Rockman-S bluetooth speaker for use when riding. Had tried riding around playing music from spotify last Sunday. Sounds pretty good. Can be use to answer phonecalls too but I am only planning to pair it with my spare HP on data plan only. Don't want to broadcast my phonecalls for the whole street to hear while riding. :s13::s13::s13:
