Just ride any bike. As long as it fits reasonably well, there should be no pain.

You answered it. :s13:

What if the bike simply simply can't fit well due to shorter cockpit length as in the case of the aleoca folding bicycle? ;)

anyway the dilemma is this:

if you ride slow ie: under 20kmh, on roads, bangla run across road, bang you, you fly off :(

but if you ride fast, above 35kmh, on roads....chances of bangla bang you is lower, and even if got contact, he fly off, you continue moving......

so is ride fast or slow :s22:

Ride at your own comfortable pace.

I don't understand the need for speed. I enjoy cycling and I pace myself. There is a speed that I want to achieve and I do some training (for it). I don't like to have to 'keep up' with someone or people's speed. Thus I always cycle alone.

i always ram max speed on the roads, somehow it seems safer for me.....

during the haze period, i rode at a very leisure 16kmh, and find it very scary, and faster siam to pavement :s22:

I've never been in that sort of dilemma. Been riding on SG roads for five years and well over 10k kms by now.

Basically, what you have there is just a red herring sort of argument. :s13:

thank you so much for the answers. will try it out next time.

Play around with the shifting. Try to stick to a combination of gears that will allow you to maintain the speed that you want while pedaling about 60 revolutions a minute.

Find a relatively flat road or area to start with and go from there. Also, don't grip the handlebars too tightly. Relax. :)

Why would slower be more dangerous?

Anyway I would like to know if has anyone rode on Neo tieow/ Lim Chu Kang road on weekdays 10am to 5pm before?

To me, I pace myself, but i pace according to heart rate, riding fast is fun especially with people because you can share the workload between many people. if working with a group makes you reach your destination sooner why not ?

Well, for me, there's no need to reach my destination sooner. My nbr one priority is safety and will always be. Nbr 2 priority is enjoying the process. My challenge is always myself, setting my own target and speed/pace, and not challenging or trying to keep up with others.

I feel only....

maybe becos lesser cars overtake at lesser differential speed?

and since i have to change lane/ride on the center or right lane, i can never change lane at under 20kmh :s22:

or maybe i put so much effort and concentration in ramming the pedals, i no longer care about other stuffs :s22:

I cannot really tell if faster or slower is more dangerous but both has it pro n con. Slower get horned, but if fall also not that bad provided if u fall at the right side n easier to be predicted. Faster, has more options when **** happens u can choose to change lanes, brake, or increase speed easier (momentum already there)to avoid crashes.

But 1 thing I know for sure based on painful experience is when going at narrow lane pls pls pls throw away that Kia see the more space I give him the safer I am mentality n hog the whole lane n do not ever ride on the yellow lines....it's like an invitation to get ****** message sent to other motorists n u only have to wait for 1 impatience ****** to screw u.

is 60 revs a minute an optimum way to cycle?

How to negotiate for space on road? I always have some fears.

1. Just before slip road, how to safely go straight while fast moving vehicles behind or beside is cutting leftwards?

2. How to safely move to the far right lane to make a right turn? Do we behave like motorcyclists to take a lane at the cross junction?

3. How to safely switch to faster lane when the buses in front stops at the bus stop? I also not sure when will the first bus starts moving.

Move to center of the straight lane instead of beside the white line so vehicle behind harder to cut in front of u

2. How to safely move to the far right lane to make a right turn? Do we behave like motorcyclists to take a lane at the cross junction?

Move to lane 1 as early as possible like 30 seconds earlier as soon as it's safe to do so. instead of when the traffic lights are already in sight.
Also if it's a 2 right turn lane, choose lane 2 so after the turn u be at the left-est lane.

3. How to safely switch to faster lane when the buses in front stops at the bus stop? I also not sure when will the first bus starts moving.

This is tricky but sometimes I create a fake right hand pointing right downwards signal to let vehicles behind me know that I might sway to the right anytime, just in case the bus moving out from bus stop didn't check blind spot before moving out.
Another safer way is to wait behind the bus.

See above answer

Also if ride in a big group , the above are hardly an issue if u are in the center of the group :D
